View Full Version : 4.10 gears w/ tlok v6 Auto PP --- Brand
xyster 04-10-2008, 03:18 AM I am a bit confused. Lately there have been a flood of suggestions on what brands to get and what not to get as far as gears are concerned. I was set on the Motive gears (4.10) but have recently seen that these whine. I was thinking it might have been an issue with someones installation that prompted this post. However, wanting some assurance on this matter, I would like to know what YOU guys have put on your mustang and what you'd recommend.
I am definately getting the 4.10's with a t-lok already. I have the money for the mod that I have been saving up for. It's going to be a birthday gift for myself this month.
I'm looking for QUALITY and BEST PRICE of course (just as anyone would). I don't want to sacrifice Quality just to save $50 though...
Throw any input you guys have out at me. I'd soak it all up. If you have websites to parts so that I can check some of it out, plz do. If anyone has had any bad experiences with any, plz explain. Hopefully this can clear up some of the talk being thrown around about gears lately for myself and others as well.
Little background about it all---
Not going to be used for race anytime soon
Will getf/i in the future
Already have suspension
Do not commute long distances in my car. It's more for city driving and getting around the countryside.

jdphillips73 04-10-2008, 07:42 AM I just installed 4.10 ford racing gears in my 1994 f150 with the 8.8 rear end myself... took 12 hours over 2 days since it was my first install....anyway...
from my personal experience ford racing gears do not whine, they are quiet and they make my truck pull alot harder.
isnt that really what you want anyway? no whine, and harder pulling?
jdphillips73 04-10-2008, 07:44 AM oh yeah, i ordered my gears and the yukon install kit from randys ring and pinion.com
addison85 04-10-2008, 08:42 AM V6mustangstuff sells FRPP (the real deal) gears.
xyster 04-10-2008, 07:11 PM I didn't see any Ford 4.10's on v6mustangstuff for the 7.5 rear end. Can you link me?
vtmustangs 04-10-2008, 08:17 PM I didn't see them on there either and I did some research and I can't find the 4.1s made by frpp anywhere...all I can find is the 3.73 and motive gears...keep in mind though newtakeoff.com has the 8.8 rear with ford 4.1 gears and t-lock installed for a cheap 950.
Devil Wolf 04-10-2008, 08:30 PM the FFRP 4.10s for the 7.5 are all gone. ford stopped making them and even v6 mustang stuff only carries the 3.73s. i even called random dealerships to see if anyone had any/ could order some. no luck.
i got the motive performance plus gears; they are the same gears (from what i am told) as the FFRP gears that were made by motive. and any gear will whine if not installed properly. if you have someone who knows what they are doing, you shouldnt have anything to worry about with the motive gears.
stangmods has a decent package deal for gears, master bearing, oil, and t-lok for 422 - you could get 3.73 or 4.10.
i went with the 4.10s now; while i would like a blower at some point, when the time comes i will just get a 8.8 take off with 3.73s. i figure if ive got more than 4 grand for the blower i could afford the take off, and id rather be happy now with some 4.10s while i wait and save.
Sancho805 04-10-2008, 08:45 PM http://www.usgear.com/ They make the OEM gears for Ford, GM, Chrysler. That's what my shop installed in my stang.
vtmustangs 04-10-2008, 10:38 PM this sucks I was planning on getting gears for a couple of months but I was going to get the 3.73s but if frpp is not making anymore may have to snatch some up now
xyster 04-11-2008, 01:23 AM Thanks alot for the help!! I think i've made up my mind on the best overall deal... I'm going with the package at http://www.stangmods.com/Mustang-Gears-Package-from-StangMods-p/00346-pack2.htm
It will have everything i'd need at a reasonable price so I don't have to bug my friend for stuff from his shop.
Thanks again!
vtmustangs 04-11-2008, 01:33 PM let us know how the motive gears turn out
mustangman02232 04-16-2008, 11:46 AM theres nothing wrong with motives, helical cut gears are not supposed to whine... if they do its a bad install
something along the line of richmonds will whine because they are straight cut gears.. but it doesnt make them bad gears
americanmuscle.com has em and you can shoot them an email and ask for the MF discount code;)
xyster 04-19-2008, 06:24 AM Just bought some FORD OEM 4.10's. Now I am in search for the cheapest posi/t-lok. Anyone know a site and possibly a coupon code of some sorts? I am planning on getting these done before the end of april if possible at the local FRPP shop.
Also I have the SCT X-Cal2 tuner. All I would need to do once installed is change the gear ratio that is set for my car through the x-cal 2 if I remember correcty. This is to make sure the guages display the speed correctly right?
vtmustangs 04-19-2008, 10:31 AM v6mustangstuff.com has it for 200 don't think you will get much cheaper than that. You are correct about the tuner you need to go in and change the rear gear ratio and if you don't then you speedometer will be off by 5-10mph.
Just an fyi for everybody else American Muscle now has the FRPP gears again.
