I have an '89 4cyl mustang and wanted to remove the muffler and put straight piping on it. If I'm trying to get a louder, deeper sound with the car do you think that this is a good idea?

you'll definetly make it louder!!!! but since u have a 4 banger there is like no hope of getting a deeper sound. unless u put like an aftermarket muffler. since u said u want to put a straight pipe on u would more than likely be closer to the farttin sound like that of a honda.. sorry dude.

Well, I drive a 4 banger. One of my best buds also drives a 4 banger, with a straight pipe. Damn thing is now nicknamed "The BeeHive".

You don't want straight pipes. Look at the Flowmaster 50 seires Delta Flow, along with the 60 series Delta Flow, hooked up to 2.25 inch piping. You'll be much happier than with straight pipes.

Well I have no catalyc converters. They are replaced instead with an H-pipe.

I live in the northern bay area. I know a couple guys that have shops that have hooked me up with smogs for like $200. Pricey, but worth it, unless I want to go and put the cats back on, and they havent been on for over 8 years so who knows if the car would pass smog on its own anyway.

Yeah, good thing smog checks are only once every 2 years, I have to put my stock H with cats on every time I get it smogged. It's a bitch and a half, and my car feels so freakin slow.

Where do you live? Wouldnt it be easier for you to just get a fake smog than go through all that replacing the cats every two years?

lol.. I always like to take the easy way out.
