ok, im just starting to dive into turbo's and F/I, and i've got a junkyard build im working on. the block is a 91 5.0, and was wondering what you guys think would be the best turbo/ turbo's for this. i know the block is a time bomb over 500rwhp even as low as 450rwhp. im mostly looking for massive torque ~520rwtq+ and hp i want ~425-500rwhp. so help me out guys.

2 places you really dont want to go cheap on a turbo build
the turbo and the wastegate.
Diesel turbos work sometimes, but arent always the right size
Turbo sizing and a/r are CRITICAL
Junkyard build recommendation
stock 302 Ford Racing "F" cam - good turbo cam for what it is. BBK shorty headers flipped ( dont use Ford Racing or stock, they will crack ) Treadstone $300-400 intercooler. Master Power T-70 turbo - apx $625 www.bgturbokits.com sells them 2.5" crossover 3.5" downpipe. 38mm Tial wastegate - apx $225
Just copy the layout of some of the kit makers as far as pipe routing.
16 guage mild steel tubing.

Some may already know but im runnin the t70 on a stock block and i couldnt be happier. i have almost all of what r barn said except i got the flowmaster 2-into-1 to the turbo, turbonetics race wastegate hooked up to their VBC (variable boost controller) (these 2 are made to work together, and believe me, they work great). now dont forget to upgrade your fuel system, i got #42 injectors, upgraded MAF, adjustable regulators, and a handheld tuner. i know im forgetting something. but im puttin down 437 at the back wheels (just got dynod) at 8 psi. it was funny seeing the guys reaction to the #s from a ratty lookin bronco.

ORIGINAL: USMCrebel well, im following a build MMFF did on a guy that had a 5.4l 60mm john deere turbo, and was wondering if it would be thee same kinda deal.
consider that not all john deere turbo's are the same size & on top of that consider that the 5.4 that he had not only had more cid, but also turned an extra 1k more rpm. so it would require a bigger turbo.

ORIGINAL: USMCrebel ok, here's what im looking at for turbos
the turbo coupe turbo's should be plentiful around here, but if not what are some other junkyard cars that have them?
They're good if you plan to use a twin setup. Don't get the ihi turbos on 87-88 turbocoupes. two .48 or .63 t3's are good. I'd go with the .63's if you plan on doing alot of future work to the engine. Make sure you don't mix & match though, Don't try to run a .48 on one bank & .63 on the other bank.
".63 a/r" will be written on the .63 exhaust housings, the .48's don't have anything written on them & look just a wee bit different. (at least none that i've seen have anything written on exhaust & i've seen quite a few in person)

ORIGINAL: USMCrebel so whats so bad about the 87-88 IHI turbos?
there's nothing bad about them. for what you're wanting they're a little small. You can still run them, but you'll run out of steam on top end, the ihi's are very small.

i'm not too familiar on turbos BUT go look on hellion's website, i know a few guys that swear buy them. but some1 mentioned that u dont wanna go cheap, and they r right. an F/I system is not something u wanna jerry rig. especialy since u r keeping stock shortblock, u r only looking at around 10 psi, so i dont even kno if u can reach the numbers u r talking about w/o scattering your internals...so dont reach for the sky when your budget cant even get u off the ground. play it safe.

well, there is a difference between being cheap (ebay turbo) and getting a tried and true turbo off a car that came with it. im not worried about scattering my internals forged is a wonderful thing, the block will split before my internals go. my budget is very low, but my fab skills and rebuilding skill are pretty good. im not the best, but im good.
looks like some of the SR20 cars may have turbo's like the T28 by garett....so which of the turbo's would be better for my application the TC turbo or the T28?

I helped a buddy of mine swap a sr20 into a s14 (240sx) and that stock turbo is wayyy too small for a v8.
