My lawnmower is broken, and has been broken for about 6 months now (If anyone would let me barrow one, please message me). Since I havnt had a mower our back lawn is SUPER overgrown. Well today I was bored and decided to go cut down the 4 foot grass with my Sword. Yes with my Samurai Sword (Katana w/e). Wait thats not the truly nerdy part. While I was doing this I saw something moving in the grass. I notice it is a lizard. Now I have seen this lizard around before but it always eluded me. Tricky thing it is. Well today was my day, I caught this tricky Lizard. I then went to PetCo, and spent entirely too much money for a living environment for my new pet.

So here is my new pet. My alligator lizard.

I have yet to name him, I would LOVE to hear some ideas.

Never saw one of those before. Give him a Latin name.

i hope you know about the animal. the temp, humidity, diet, foliage and ground cover have to be perfect in order for it to be happy and healthy. check this out: reptile forum

and for the love of god! dont listen to those dumn ass teenagers at petco or petsmart, they dont know a god damn thing most of the time. all of the reptile you see there are normally very unhealthy due to not taking the right house and feeding precautions. im sure if you went in there you saw multiple snakes housed together in the same enclosure?

I think you should pee on it so it can looked pissed off and pissed on at them same time. Then someone can make a motivational poster about it. Take pics of it covered in urine. It would be giving it a warm moist living environment at the same time.

they can live if not stressed out too much. dont feed it for about a week, keep it in a dark, quiet room, and dont handle it for about two weeks. and make sure you have all the temps right.

I went to a shop and asked what I needed. They set me up. I know some of these guys dont know, but this guy really seemed to know his stuff.. I took some of the plant I found him in and put it in there. Tore out the roots with it so it hopfully will stay a live. He lived in my backyard along my fence for atleast a year, so I guessing (and the shop confirmed) and foliage and crickets are best for food. I have a temp and humidity gauge in there, along with a lamp and a heating pad under.  I also made a hiding spot with wood from the fence so that will be familiar to him also. I spend almost $80 on just stuff for him. I wont halfass it. I love reptiles and have wanted another one for sometime now.

It gets up to 110 here, and both times I have seen him it has been between 70 and 90 so I am planning on keeping it around that temp.

I will checkout the forum though.

well im very surprised that he knew something about reptiles. foliage and crickets are good but there are also many other things too feed it, and be careful, some foliage can be fatal. just post those pics on the forum and the will be able to tell you everything about that animal, good luck and follow those stress procedures.

I owned a snake back with I was like 9-10, and I have always loved reptiles. Its just some kind of crb grass thats ALL over my back lawn. It pretty much IS my lawn right now. The guy also said Meelworms could work but they are more expensive so I will hold off till i get paid again for those.

it looks like a good enclosure but i would defintly get a top. also keep it dark for a while, so get rid of the lamp. you dont need it anyway, you have a undertank heater and that will be sufficient. also if your having a problem regulating the humidity you can put a towel over half the tank, its a quick and effective solution.
