Default j-code motors

hey, first-time poster here. i'll add some pics of my 66 fastback to my signature wheni get enoughspare time to figure it out.

i have a chance to pick up a rebuildable but complete '68j-code 302 motor for not much money. i looked around and see it's bascially a 230-250 HP, 4-BBL motor that was only available one year. any other vital statistics available? stock cam profile? compression ratio? was this a good motor, or was it discontinued in favor of a better one in '69?

thanks for any feedback....

Personally I think the J-code is an under-appreciated engine. It's factory rated at 230 hp and was the engine used in the 68 shelby GT350. As I understand it, the heads were a bit different, possibly giving it a little more compression or better flow. I don't know what the cam specs were.I've been looking for one for myself if I can find a decent price on one, just to have around for some future project.

Welcome.

Short money? If nothing else buy it and sit on it. Or sell it to d-ford.

The '68 GT350 engine was a J code motor with a different intake...except some of them didn't even get that. IIRC, the early productions got the factorycast iron intake. Fordlater recalled them, but some people didn't go in for the recall and still have the standard production piece. It's not really anything special, and nothing like the old K code hi-po motors.
