I just got my Diablo tuner. How much can I adjust the timing to be safe without taking to a dyno. I can adjust timing between 1k-4k rpm's and 4k-7k rpms. Do you set the timing the same for both?

Nooooo...you need to slightly retard the timing for the higher RPM. Advancing it or keeping it the same as the lower RPM will result in pinging or backfire.

If you can run 93+ octane, you can be pretty aggressive. On the bottom, you can run around 27* of timing, and on the top you can run 22-25* of timing. Do this at the dyno, if possible.

so is that advancing the timing then? Not to knock derf, but he is the only one i have heard saying to retard the timing. Im trying to figure out where to set mine as well. i can go -40%-+10% on the 2k-4k and the 4k-7k ranges. i thought that i would want to slightly advance on the low rpm, and be a little more aggressive on the high. right now i have it at .05% advance on 2-4 and 3% on 4-7. I dont think im hearing any pinging, and from what ive heard from other people its pretty distinctive
Since the car is n/a, you can advance the timing from its stock setting quite a bit if you can get good gas. On a blown application you need to run a lot less total timing. That's possibly what he was referring to. But, the bottom line is the timing can be advanced quite a bit in a n/a car as long as 93+ octane gas is avalible. I should know, I have tuned several.
