I don't mean to beat around the bush any more but I thought I would put together a list of all the shifters that are out there for the 05-08 V6 mustangs, with prices if possible. I will put the list here and keep it updated. So far there are the......
1. MGW shifter..........289.99 2. Hurst shifter..........179.99 on ebay 3. Pro 5.0.................259.99 on ebay (if I'm not misstaken, the GT one works for the v6...please correct me if I am wrong)
Please post if you have any info on any of these and I will update it.
Thanks

I have thought about the Hurst and may end up with that one in the end but I also like the stock shifter knob and that is why I am considering the other ones.
Not sure if this is correct, just spoke with mustangsunlimited but according to them, the gt shifters will fit the v6 as well. He said they mount the same way. Is this correct for the most part?????
If that is true, would the B&M shifter for the 05-08 GT fit ours??????

I am with you on keeping the stock shifter I have not a big fan of the ball shifters like the idea of shortening the shift but just don't like the look just my opinion
I've got the Hurst and love it. What makes you say it's cheaply made? Have you broken one? I've never heard of a failure with a Hurst, please enlighten me.

the MGW shifter is the best by far. all around it is the best made and the throw reduction is awesome. the hurst is cheaply made, just my 2 cents

OP nice idea! I've been in other threads about shifters and I like your idea of putting it all in one thread.
I would also like to hear why Hurst is so bad. I've heard that claim before that MGW is what dissatisfied Hurst people upgrade to. I would like to know what is wrong the Hurst because I've also heard just as many say they love their Hurst.
I wish there was a way to test them both out side by side. Any retailers listening??? idea for a car show maybe??? setup a both and have 2 cars with different mods on them so we can test the look and feel (better yet the feel) of the different ones out??? Central Ohio??? Anyone? Anyone?

At the Get Out Of The Cold race/show held at MIR on 3/29/08, I was parked between Paleoc (CS6 w/ a Hurst) and Bugstang (chromallusion paint on alloy, with the MGW). Now I didn't get to drive them, but I did get to row through the gears. Both were an HUGE improvement over my stock shifter. Bug's was adjusted all the way up for the shortest throws, so it took some getting used to. I have the k-member with torque limiters, and although the Hurst is an old favorite of mine, I may go for the MGW and keep the stock shifter boot/knob.

The key is the torque limiters. I'm sure the MGW is a quality unit but without the T/L's it won't shift any better than a Hurst. If you see a value in spending a hundred bucks more for a MGW over a Hurst that's what you should do.

Torque limiters attach to the K member and the bell housing on both the drivers and passenger side and keep the drive train from twisting (or limit it) during hard acceleration. This keeps the linkage straight and greatly improves shifting. It also helps put the power to the ground better. It's a very easy bolt on, I did mine on ramps in less than an hour.

The stock Shifter is 100 times smoother then the Hurst Shifter and that might be why a lot of people are not happy with it after installing it. The Hurst shifter is 40% less throw but I think it is more like 48% I like my Hurst Shifter and it may seam stupid to some people to go backwards in Quality of the smoothness of the shift but I like the Old School feel of it and it is a lot faster to shift. I like the Ball over the Stock Shift knob I just wish Hurst made a Rubber boot for the S197 too.
the pro 5.0 it shouldnt fit our cars. our cars have a T-5 and the GT's have T-3650's. not the same. if theyre advertising that it will i wouldnt buy from whoever is selling it.

I'm fairly new to this, explain the torque limiters?????
beaustang did a fine job explaining them, but I wanted to add one point. The concern with the shifter in the S197 is that it is attached to the body of the car, not the transmission. So under wide open throttle (WOT), the engine/tranny will torque/flex slightly on the mounts. This can cause the shifter to bind (particularly on that 2-3 shift). The torque limiters (TL) anchor the rear mounts down so there's no flex. Here's a picture -
TL's are easy to install with the new k-member. They are double threaded to change the length. The proper adjustment is to pull down with the DRIVER'S side, and to push up on the PASSENGER side. This adjustment pattern prevents the flex, and once they are adjusted this way, you shouldn't have any rattles. There are different versions for manual vs. auto trannies. I bought mine from PowerHouse - here's a link
