Video of a new stock G8 GT. No power braking, new low mile car, it's only going to get faster. And this with the L76 and automatic! 6 speed So if this is what GM is puting out for a 4 door, The Camaro will be much quicker. New Camaro will be lighter, have more power, and will have a six-speed manual transmission.
What is going to happern to the Mustang GT in 2010? it has to compete with the Camaro with similar Times, becasue GM states that the Camaro will cost the same as a Mustang. If the Mustang is still a mid 13 sec car and the Camaro is a high 12. Most would get a Camaro.

GM's Bob Lutz has already stated that the Camaro will be priced much higher than the Mustang, because GM feels that the Camaro will be a "higher end" offering due to it having an IRS and what Lutz calls a much nicer interior. It's been stated also by GM that the next Camaro won't be a "fire breather", the majority of models will be V-6's, and the base could possibly be the same 2.0 turbo 4 featured in the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice. And as far as weight is concerned the Camaro won't weigh much less (if any) than the G-8, which it shares a platform with. I'm sure we'll see a LS powered high end V-8 model offered, but it's numbers will be limited, and the price will be much higher than the Mustang GT. It will probably be priced somewhere in the range of the Challenger SRT8. The reason that they are able to price the Pontiac G-8 so low is because they didn't have to spend much on development for it, it's basically a rebadged Holden. They did however spend a lot of money developing the new Camaro, which will probably show up in the sticker price.
the camaro has alway been fast then the mustang. 1/4 times don't seem to affect sales too much. i think you typical driver of both car will never step foot at a dragstrip.
I'd day if the mustang is even close to the camaro in 1/4 performance, the lower hp won't matter (and yes, this pisses me off. Grow some balls for the hp freaks Ford, GEEZZZ!)
As far as price. i would be really surprised if the camaro ends up being the same as the mustang unless a) GM taks big time losses to keep up with Ford which would defeat the purpose of bring back the camaro or b) If Ford adds IRS and a bigger, more expensive motor to the gt to compete with the 'maro, and the mustang gets more expensive.
in conclusion, i think Fords had plenty of time to come up with a game plan to compete with the camaro and challenger and won't get caught with their pants down.
