So, I did some datalogs for Justin @ VMP, and he sends a reply telling me something is "way off" and to verify my injectors. Pretty much exactly what I want to hear. Unless Whipple sent 54# or something, I don't know whats wrong.

The other problem (very moot) is that the drivers side intercooler brass fitting looked like it leaked a bit (fluid on the ground and a "stain" on the intake manifold). Shouldn't be a big deal to fix once Whipple tells me the torque spec / o-ring size (if it is in fact an ORB fitting)

Wish me luck that I get things sorted out before I blow the damn thing up.

Not good.
Please keep me posted Cataclysm,   I'll be doing the intall next week and already planning to check all the fasteners,   didnt think about the fittings though.

So whats with the injectors??   if I've missed a post I apologize but not sure of the original issue??

I do wish you luck!

Justin just asked me to verify the injectors....perhaps they are a different size then he tuned for by mistake.

hey cat, do you think a leak down
test (using compressed air) would
have revealed that connector issue?

hang in there and these minor issues will
one day, just be a distant unpleasant
memory.....

Hey Hammer,   I've been wanting to ask you how much pressure for the leak down?    I was thinking no more than ~10psi.

Did you get a whipple tune?  I am running the whipple tune at 8psi, and I have 0 problems.  Other than wanting more HP.

I think you should switch to the whipple tune while you figure out these problems.

Do you have some one local who dyno tunes.  I dont trust this remote tuning thing.

I have not ordered the FRPP tune, and I also moved my IAT sensor........will that affect the FRPP tune? I should order that tomorrow I guess......and not drive my car until I figure this out.  I'm worried now that I am either lean (doesn't ping....so maybe not) or way to rich which might wash my cylinders causing some serious damage as well. Justin asked if I could get a wideband too.....which also concerns me. I can't get the wideband done until I get a weldboss on my exhaust, and i can't do that unless I drive my car.
There are no DTC codes thrown either.....

Hammeron: I don't know if the leak down would have shown anything. Its leaking on the outside of the fitting, so its possible a temp change caused it. As far as I can tell, the leak stopped.........but I'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure its the intercooler system, and not engine coolant.

Whatever is going on,  I'm stressed like all hell now, as i have been driving the car for a bit, sometimes hard. I'd be pissed if there is a mechanical issue when I go to get it dyno tuned on the 15th..........so I need to figure it out yesterday.

aclass - we're just testing the intercooler
core and connectors, so 10-20psi should be
fine

cat - FRPP tune is written for stock IAT location

dex - exhaust pipe bung, for the a/f sensor

I wish Justin would give me better explanations. I mean, what exactly is "way off"?  I need to know more then just "verify injectors",  I want to know why I should be lookin' at them.

My blood pressure is right jacked now............

Hey, Cataclysmgt I would get the Innovate wideband and an off road x or h pipe and it will plug right into the 02 bung, thats what I run and it is the best gauge on the car.

MustangGT0405 is running the whipple tune with a relocated IAT sensor.  I would definately order the frpp tuner, it's free.

I have a stain on the passenger side of the intake manifold that looks like some intercooler coolant leaked, but my reservoir has never gone down.  It might also be the gasket cinch changing color.

the injectors are the 38lb ones unless whipple has changed something.

The wideband comes with a stainles bung.
That takes fifteen minutes to have a muffler shop weld the bung in to the front of the drivers side H pipe?
I wouldn't change the exhaust just to install a  sending unit.

Back to the problem at hand:
Your tuner is just verifying you have the right injectors. You dont need to be such a spaz. I think having a dyno tune would be your best bet.
Tuning by email = not so good.

Well, I got a local tuner looking at the data logs and tune, so maybe he can find something. I'll be getting a weld-boss installed next week in time for the dyno tune on the 15th. I will not buy a wideband, as they drift and die, especially in continuous use. What good is a reading when its not accurate?

the innovate WB is real easy to recalibrate, just open air w/ the sensor and press a button.  hang in there, i'm sure you'll get everything straightend out soon.

Cat - what he probably means by 'verify the injectors' is to get them flow tested and matched. It is very common for some injectors to be 'off' dramatically. I remember one build in particular where the injectors were so ridiculously off (flow wise) it caused the car to run like crap until we figured out it was the injectors.

Even though some companies claim their injectors are flow tested, I always send a new set of injectors out to be flow tested and matched for about $150 and they have never been perfect not one time I have sent a new set out. The differences are usually slight but sometimes severe and ridiculous.

I'm assuming this is what he is talking about when he said to 'verify' them.

Good luck.

CK

So, where do I send injectors out to get flow tested? I'm guessing that if this is what I am supposed to do I will miss my dyno session.......and my car for a month or two.
Like I said, I wish Justin would better explain what the problem may be, and what exactly he wants me to do about it. 4 line emails are not really helping me out.

*hangs head is dissapointment.........*
