Vacuum leak is very easy to spot. Simple brake cleaner will tell you that right away. I hope it's that simple but normally, vacuum leaks aren't so difficult to diagnose.

I don't know the particulars and obviously haven't looked at your car but from what you've described my honest opinion is it's either (in order) #1 - a tune issue or #2 your PCM.

Just thought I'd mention for those reading this thread and considering buying a whipple: This is an isolated incident. I've read dozens of reviews of members who installed a whipple and this is the only time I've seen this happen. Also, I've never seen this happen with the FRPP tune that comes with the whipple. Cat: Here's the question I have. Is it possible that Ford writes a different factory tune or uses a different PCM for Canadian cars that would cause it to be incompatible with Justin's tunes? Just a thought. Whatever the case, I will be waiting until the outcome of this thread before I pull the trigger on my VMP tune.

^^^^^ Very important to note. I am almost positive that his issues are nothing to do with the whipple kit.

Do you not have a boost/vac gauge? That would tell you if you had a vac leak. Get a propane torch from the hardware store and shoot propane anywhere you think there might be a vacuum leak. If there's a leak it will suck in the propane and the rpms should increase.

You can also diagnose a vacuum leak by looking at the fuel trims. Not sure if you have a scan tool that can read fuel trims. I like to look at mine using the aeroforce gauge. If you have a scan tool, look at the Short Term Fuel Trim (STFT) and Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) values. Normal range is plus or minus 8. If the numbers are +10 or higher for STFT and LTFT, the engine is running LEAN. If you rev the engine to 1500 to 2000 rpm and hold it for a minute or so, and the STFT value drops back down to a more normal reading, it confirms the engine has a vacuum leak at idle. If the STFT value does not change much, the lean fuel condition is more likely a fuel delivery problem (weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, dirty fuel injectors or a leaky fuel pressure regulator) than a vacuum leak. I stole that little bit of info from a website. I was looking for info about fuel trims and what they mean. This is a good article about them and explains why in closed loop the engine bounces back and forth between a rich and lean mixture. http://www.aa1car.com/library/fuel_trim_wellsmfg.pdf
