Default What is the best A/C unit?

Im in need of an A\C unit and my research has come to the one under the dash (surefit) or the big box. the surefit takes the air form the outside and cools it down, this would be a problem as i live in AZ and the sun heats up the air too quickly. the box is big and recycles the air that is already inside the cab of the car.

is there any brand or type that is better than the other. i really would like to cool my car before it hits 113 degrees outside. im looking for the most effiecienat A/C on the market, one that will cool my car very quickly and one that will last for a long time cooling my car when ever i need it,

ATM im useing 60x2 and im melting, i drive as often as i can due to the car is just fun to cruise around in. so in general i wnat to invest in an A/C unit that will cool the car as fast as i can get it into drive. but don't know where it look or whatim looking for.

Mustang65, 6 cyl, 30amp, 3spd auto, coupe, aluminum radiator/flex fan, with flow-master exahust

if there is any tips and trinks that i need to know about tell me, if there are any websites that might help me know what to look for post them,

im new to the A/C side so pls tell me what i should be looking for and what number/models are better and any charts to show me.

thanks again

need to get fan shroud, minimum of 3 row radiator, good ac conversion from nostalgic air parts, your melting or the car is? I live in mesa, az( burb) of phoenix and it's only gotten to 85 this year,, so who's melting? you or the car there's a heck of a difference asto,,, so, please say it as to you're melting,,or what ,,,ps cheaper to roll down the windows at 85 degrees then run ac,, just a hint since you live in az with temps ready to hit 113 degrees,, ever look at your ac setup? ..ps please take your unlimted money and learn to spell and spend more time on the forums learning about your stang

is there any other questions? or comments.... as im in AZ i guess i want the original classic look. is there a updated A/C unit out there... vintageair.com only has teh sure fit that it recemends, and that won't cool it as quick as the sure, but then again if the surefit can cool it faster than the classic looking a/c then maby i can rig it jsut right to recycle the air inside of the car. well i think thats how it works, described in various websites and what not....

thanks again

Vintageair does not suck air from the cowl it gives you a plate to seal off the cowl vent on that side.

If it helps, I used the Classic Air perfect fit kit, and set it up to be infinitely adjustable between the floor and dash vents. We don't get much over 110*F in the hotest part of summer here though.
But if you are interested in looking at a kit that has been tweeked, there is a write up on the web page in my signature. I used to install A/C kits for a living. It's nice to see the improvements in design with the new generation stuff.
I will say, one advantage to the Classic Auto Air kit, is that the evaporator sits away from the heater core, making future servicing much easier.
Classic Auto Air, Vintage Air, Old Air products, etc. They are all pretty good kits, but all of them can be optimized with experience.
Now if you really want cold air right away, the best I've seen is a 3KWgenerator strapped to the trunk lid, and a window A/C set in the passenger window, on what I think was a Fairmont.

Good luck,

I am a Vintage Air Dealer so you know what I suggest. Just installed two of them last week in a 65 and a 66. I do give discounts to Members of this forum. The one thing I don't like about Classic or any other business that does this. Is they try and run down other businesses. They make some false comments in their adds, and I would rather buy a kit that doesn't have to be serviced instead of saying our kits are easy to service. Just my two cents.

Hi Hutch, long time.
So are you saying the heater core of the Vintage Air unit is guaranteed for life?
It seems these old cars are prone to rusty coolant systems. Hard for me to fathom never having to replace or service a heater core.
