There are tons of ****ers availible for the T5 and you don't have to change the whole shifter.  You can just get a new top for it.  There are two bolt under the boot.

Take that dirty old boot off and clean it. Then see if it looks better once you armor all it.
If you want to change it out Look @ tri axe shifter handles they look nice.
My t5 has a long chrome stick and a white ball on it. Looks like my Hurst competition + on my 4 speed.
Im using the old square style boot with big red H cut out thru the chrome plate on the boot on mine, looks right at home.

If you've got access to a drill press, a hacksaw, and a bench grinder, you can probably make a traditional shift lever fit the two holes and put the shifter ball right where you want it.

Good advice on taking it easy while all the pairs of gears in that new tranny are getting friendly with each another.

Guys, guess what I am doing tonight? Crossing the Golden Gate bridge one more time and driving again and again :)

I'll wait until I go back to the shop (1,000 miles) to have the stick changed (would love a long chrome one with the white ball).

Feels good and the weather is amazing: life is great :)

Why have them change it?  It's not hard to do.  Glazier's sells an OE style shifter handle that will bolt up to a T5 shifter, as well as a white shift ball.

its not hard to change, you can buy the whole shifter assembly that drops in the top of the transmission with 4 bolts or just the handle that has 2 bolts

Right, I am going to do it myself :)

But before, just like yesterday after the office, I crossed the bridge (3 minutes from my place) and went driving the Marin Headlands. Living in San Francisco (and owning a Mustang) is just amazing!

And you know what? I'm happy
