Anybody know what swapping in an engine from a GT would entail aside from the obvious labor? Is the manual trans the same as the V6? Any weak links in the drivetrain? compatible wiring harnes? What about v8's from other vehicles, ie crown vic's, f150, explorer, etc. Thanks!
Different trans, different rear end, different driveshaft. Wiring, computer obviously. Different suspension but compatible. Best bet would be to find a wrecked GT and drop the guts in your car. Probably could find many compatible parts in other V8 cars like the rear-end, engine and/or trans.
If you have the money and the time it would be a fun project, but alot of headache and trouble!

You could save money and headaches by trading your v6 in for a gt
Wow thanks for the news flash...
(god if i had a nickel every time someone said trade in ur v6.......)
Well, he does have a point, swapping a GT engine and such in a v6 will cost more money and stress than just buying a GT. You know that there will be no worries / malfunctions if you buy a GT from the dealer
Why swap for a GT engine? Why not get a ford racing crate engine instead if you are going to swap it in for a biggun? Might as well do it up a notch if you are gonna put down the cash for something like that.

Why not go for something like a 390 or 427 big block! Rip out the electronics and go with a tunnel ram and two 4 barrels! If I had alot of $$ and time that would be the neatest thing. New car old tried and true HP!

If you can get the whold thing around 3 grand or so, I saw one like this earlier so they come up from time to time. I know its a bunch of work but I like that stuff. In all likelyhood I'm not interested in doing this for a couple years. With this type of package, it seems like allyou need would be new rear end (or shred current one first) maybe driveshaft? In response to the "just trade for GT" well that seems to be like another 7-8 grand easy. I've done stuff like this before, but not with anything newer than 1994 and nothing that involved switching engine types. The only reason I'm even going down this road is because it seems like the v6 can 't really handle much power anywhere in the drivetrain. So if you go with a procharger lets say, which they claim will run the v6 at 400 rwhp, you will destroy everything from the transmission back. Oh and you will blow your head gaskets with the boost (I've heard they don't hold up well) and maybe wreck your 9.7:1 stock pistons. So making real power out of the 6 seems more expensive than trading the whole car by the time you are done.
So, with a package deal like above, including tranny, front suspension, wire loom, ecu, all belt driven stuff (don't think this particular package has that stuff) for around 3 large, beef up the 7.5 or replace with 8.8. Seems like a fun project when the v6 gets old and tired.

a mechanic I know is doing such a project for a customer and going with a carburator and no computer. I forgot to ask what happens with the odometer in that set up....
yea if you gona do it put the 5.4 or get a gt and swap out body parts if you want the sleeper. but the cost of used your better off with the v8. myself at 4 bucks a gallon im happy with my blown v6 and it 17 street 24 hwy mileage
oh yea i almost forgot. if your tired of hering get the gt then whay ask. do a search with three years under the new platform the have plenty of swaps out ther. i myself have been up close to one and know of at least 5 others
