i have a grand lying arround waiting to be spent...What could i do to dress this up a bit **See pic Below** any sugestions and ideas welcome-- makin it a sort of show/pleasure car
Also-- Im lookin to get that Shaker Hood-- but i know that it doesnt work unless its connected to the factory air box-- im wondering if i could fabricate something to work with my AEM CID??-- Any Ideas on that would be cool also---
i tell you what i would take the first two hundred and get my car detailed then after that i would get the roucsh stut tower dress up kit on ebay its like 40 bucks then get all your engine caps billet aluminum 220 bucks then get the fuse box cover chrome with the pony tri bar in the center 40 bucks then well idont know where to go from there but thats where i would start you can find all this stuff on ebay its cheap and its good quality
I went to a local Shop here in town "BUFFER ZONE" - guy wants 500 bucks for a full detail including a Highspeed Polish to bring the car back to showroom shine--- I wiped the engin down this morning-- looks much better-- i guess it gets quite dirty when you go splashing through puddles in spring and waste highschool kids waiting for the buss-- It was totally by accident incase you were wondering--
Ya i see alot of chrome stuff on ebay-- how about hoses?? Can i get chrome hoses and Wires?? or do they pump the neighbors dog??
I showed my old Mustang a lot. It came home w/ trophies every single time, including best in shows, and it was my daily driver. Trust me, spend the $500 on a GOOD detail, then after its done stay away from puddles! Some of the shows I went to, the judges wore white gloves (no kidding!), climbed under the car and wiped the glove looking for dirt! It kind of sucked because I always drove my car to the shows while others were trailered, so there was always a thin layer of road dirt, which they never marked me for because I told them it drove there. But the engine grime is no excuse. If you don't want to spend that kind of money, start by getting some rubber gloves because you are about to get dirty! Get a good degreaser(simple green works well) and douse the entire engine comartment, let it sit for a little while then rinse really well. You will also need a bucket of mild solution (once again the simple green), rags, sponges, toothbrush. Get into all the nooks & crannies because that's where judges will be looking. Inside the wheel wells, under the gas tank, everywhere! It will take you a good few days straight, BUT once you get it that clean, spend a few hours once a week touching up, so it won't be so much work again. I think most shows are the same for judging? You get points for hood open, windows down, trunk open, and cleanliness. Make sure your personal junk is out of there. The first few cleanings will wear you down, but once it gets to near perfect it gets easier before a show. And once you arrive at the show, spend another 30 minutes touching up. Back to the $500 detail job, beings how dirty it really is, it may be worth the initial investment to have someone professionally do it, then you just keep up on it after that.
On to the dressup-- you can buy the braided hose cover for all the radiator hoses and such. Works quite well and doesn't get all grimey after a period of time. Colored spark plug wires, swap out all the factory zip ties w/ all one color zipties, yes to the chrome cap covers(radiator, oil, etc...), etc...
Go to a few small shows and look around at what everyone else has done, not just Mustangs but old & new other makes. I learned a lot from looking and asking questions.
4Rowdy Thanks for the advice-- Ill be doing some stuff in the next few days here, ill be sure to Post pics.. Judging up here isnt as intence as you were talking about-- No white gloves that i have seen--
on a side note- saving a few hundred if i powr shine it myself-- I have swirlmarks and weird lines in the clear-- I have spend Hours with Mothers clay bar-- hours with the Black Color shine from Turtle wax--- they just dont go away and i feel like Leaping into traffic everytime i see them -- Any tips on gettin rid of that bogus stuff or -- just spend the 500 plus to get the Full on Highspeed shine-- its that or i could go to macco and get a paint job--
Stay away from Macco! From what I've heard and read on the forum, you would more than likely get a better paint job from a can of Krylon vs Macco.
Friends of our actually had to have their entire vehicle clear coated, not painted just clear coat, because the swirls and top coat scratches were so bad. Not sure if that can be claimed on insurance? If you have the "drive" to do the detail work yourself, then go for it and save the $.
It takes a lot of time and elbow grease to get to top show shape. I showed my car for 3 years, and it wasn't until the 3rd year that the Best in Show trophies were definates when I left my driveway.
