I too went to MIR over the weekend, and had fun looking at the other 129 Mustangs there! Driving down, I met up with four other members of the host club, but we ended up taking a different route than I had planned to go. Their route was shorter, and instead of arriving at the track with 10-15 miles to E, I had 78 miles to E - so much for the idea of putting 4-5 gallons of 104 unleaded in the car and running my race tune. So I retained my 93 tune, and kept the interior in tact (but removed the jack, spare, and floor).

I got to make 4 passes, and beat my previous personal best twice. Here ismy best slip of the day:

The other car was a S197 GT, and you'll notice that I beat him in the 1/8th mile! After getting a new PB, I was coached by rygenstormlocke to do a ProStock burnout for the camera. Using my new line locks, I put a hurtin' on my M&H Racemaster DR's. Sadly, rygen's camera battery died, so I had to do it again. I was happy to oblige! My new sig displays rygen's handiwork with a camera (thanks Todd!).

Two other NA Torque Monsters ran 14.4's, and one of those was a car with only a tune, intake, and exhaust (using the 16" stock BFG's on a peg-leg 3.31:1 rear-end!).

All in all, it was a great day.

I've done a few things to my coupe:
- C&L intake
- Custom tunes by Evolution Performance (87, 93, Race)
- PHP alternator pulley
- Dual GT take-off mufflers, with x-pipe and all Ford parts
- 7.5" 4.10:1 Ford gears and T-Lok
- CHE lower control arms
- BMR upper control arm
- PH aluminum driveshaft & front safety loop
- K-member w/ torque limiters
- Line Locks
- 275/50R17 M&H Racemaster DR's on 17x9" replica Bullitts
- Slate Metallic wide hood stripes by BSM
- Spoiler delete

Planned:
- Rear shocks
- Wideband AFR gauge
- SPEC stage 2 clutch, and maybe an alum flywheel

^^^^That's a pretty decent list. I wonder what you would've been running, had you been on the 104 octane and had your race tune.

Nice runs! I wish I could have been there as the DA was an astounding -1400 from what I understand. Those are the kind of DA's that we dream of. Nice burnouts, really gotta heat those M&H's up.

Very Nice times. I have seriously been looking into getting one of the New sixxers. They are not too horribly slow stock, have a good suspension with tons of room to improve, and a decent engine that gets pretty good gains. I am not a fan of how heavy they are or of the styling too much but they are still pretty good cars to me. I am stuck between a 05-06 V6 or 96-98 Cobra.[:@]:D

even though the 96-98 cobras will be quicker, id rather have a stock s197 v6. looks, comfort, room, etc.

^Maybe your v6 but a stock one, come on.[:'(] Don't even get me started about the looks department. A s197 v6 doesnt even compare. Different strokes for different folks i guess.

[sm=jawdrop.gif]Your V6 is awesome and all, but, I just don't think I'd be able to get rid of a Termi for an '05+ V6 Stang, or any '05+ Stang for that matter.

Oh, comeon, that's more fun than it is practical. I would ask what kind of gas mileage you get, but I don't want to cry because of my lowly 15mpg driving conservatively (dont even ask about the highway)

That would be great, but I might have to spend a little more money to make that happen. I figure a new clutch will be required this year. 4K launches on DR's with the stock clutch is pushing my luck. I will probably go with a alum flywheel too. I need new rear shocks to kill the last remnants of wheelhop. At the track, I got to try out the Hurst and MGW shifters in other cars. I may go with the latter and retain the stock shifter handle, but I have a sentimental attachment to the Hurst (from my old '67 390/4spd vert). AFR gauge (soon). I'm gonna try some 26" dia DR's to see if that helps or hurts my ET (I have 4.10's). No plans for FI. Sure I'd be quicker, but I don't think it would increase my level of fun- I'm already at 100%!

Thanks Todd. Yeah, that new personal best was attained without doing my optimal track prep, which would include running my race tune, airing up the front tires, and removing the back/passenger seats. So I think another personal best might come before the weather gets hot.

That is where I get confused. lol I like how responsive the new 4.0L Mustang's are and I am not wanting straight line speed anyway. I am wanting a handling car and the new Mustangs have a good suspension on them that can be improved upon even more. The only thing I don't like is how heavy they are and the styling is ok but not my personal favorite at all.

The 96-98 Cobra's are quick but they are not fast. That is my problem with them. They pull harder up top than down low and they are still fun cars but I would rather have some power down low than up top. lol They are sort of heavy too, and it is hard to find the older cars in decent shape paint-wise. Who knows what is going to happen though. If I were smart I would sell my car and get a Neon or Civic for gas mileage until I get out of college.:D

If your concern is that a Cobra doesn't pull very hard down low...(And I can't imagine why you would think a V6 would be better with 1/2 the torque) spend $200 and put a gear in it. It will be a completely different car. And it will have all the low end you can stand, as well as a better top end.

indisposible_teens
04-08-2008, 03:13 PM
I have driven both, I know how they drive. The Cobra's are quick but they don't have as much down low, I am not comparing the Cobra's low-end torque to the 6's low-end torque if that is what you are thinking. lol I know that the six isn't anywhere near fast. The big reason I am looking at an 05+ 6 is because they have a much better suspension set-up than the older SN's.

I don't really care about straight line speed as much as handling and the newer Mustang's have a good suspension to build upon. It is also a newer car and I need a reliable car to get through with college. I just like the 94-98 styling but I like the handling of the 05+. That is why I am torn between the two.:D

The Fox platform can actually handle quite well. In fact, they can be very competitive in the road racing scene. They're super easy and super cheap to modify the suspension.

I think you're probably putting too much stock in the S197's. Not that it's a bad platform, it's just not THAT much better, and it's way more expensive to modify.

indisposible_teens
04-08-2008, 04:39 PM
Yeah the fox-body's can do very well in the road racing but they are getting older and not as reliable as a newer car is.

I have driven quite a few of the newer Mustang's that have been lowered or built for mild handling purposes and I like the way that they handle compared to a mild handling car of the SN chassis.

I wouldn't mind a 5.0 SN95 but it is a bit hard to find the 94-98's in good shape paint-wise around here at least. And if the 5.0'shave a good body then they seem to have a ton of miles or have been beat on.

I might not even end up withanother Mustang. Their is a nice Audi in town that is an ok price. I will probably end up with a Mustang but if I can find any other car for a decent price that can handle then I might end up with that. lol
