Thinking about getting a new, manualV8 'Stang. I would love to know from those doing a lot of highway driving at moderate speeds - what sort of MPGs do you get? Also, what sort of reliability I am looking at? Would I get 40-50k out of it without needing some repairs? How difficult is it to fix yourself ( e.g. replacing pump, alternator, starter etc ) Would it last to 250000k highway driving like my other cars did ( moderate abuse?/meticulous maintenance)

I get about 26 highway and 19-20 city. This pretty good since my last car had 100hp and only got 35mpg.

I just bought an '05 manual with 4.10 gears. I average 17 miles per gallon. If gas guzzling is an issue, maybe a v8 isn't for you. I traded torque for mpg. As far as reliability, mine only has 20K miles on it and I've owned it for two weeks. In that two weeks, it hasn't broken down once. j/k.

Maybe someone else on this forum can enlighten you as to high mileage survivability.

Maybe someone on this forum can tell me why I am averaging 17 mpg when I drive normally.

I get about 23 average, 95% highway at 70-75 MPH and 5% town. It drops off about 1 MPG when I run 75-90 for long periods but she's very comfortable and stable at those speeds. That's still about 4-5 MPG better than my V6 SUV.

As far as reliability, flip a coin. Ford's typically won't hold up like a Toyota or Honda but with these cars improving in qualityI think today's Stang's will get you beyond 100,000 without any MAJOR repairs.

Wait your SC increased mpg?

I get about 25, and mostly drive just like you do. My 2003 4.0 Sport Trac has 189,000 and all I've done is brakes, an A/C condenser and wheel bearings (twice). I'm hoping the stang will do the same thing.

I have an 06 GT w. 30k miles which i take to the track atleast couple times a month:) I drive it like i stole it and no problems yet. I have faith w/ the motor lasting 250k; Im not sure about tranny or body; i hope so.

But to tell you the truth; sounds like you should check out like a Camary v6; there 260ish hp; and like 20/30 mpg. I love my mustang cuz of tq and rwd and it fits in my life and life style. But hey; this stang is a great car, so just take ur time and research.

I have a stock 06 GT and I drive around 50 miles a day 40 of those being highway miles. My MPG averages about 21-23 if I'm doing 70-75 MPH, but once I get upwards of 80+ (for extended periods) it drops to around 20-21 MPG. Can't complain about that especially since my vehicle before this was an 01 V6 Ranger and it got 16-17 MPG doing the same speed.

I get about 19-20mpg combined, and 26-28mpg hwy.

The engine seems fairily easy to work on. Lots of room in front of the engine once you remove the intake and radiator fan. This is my first RWD car and it is really nice to see how easy it is to get to certain things.

I wouldn't recommend a camry, Consumer Reports has removed them from their recommended list due to quality issues. And the gas mileage isn't much better than our cars, 19/28.. few more miles means you might get an extra 30-40 miles per tank but its a totally different car. (and that is if you take the sticker of 15/23 on our cars)

On the other hand. Mustangs are on the Consumer Reports recommended list for quality and safety.

Its carzy but yes, I got 14 city when I just had the cai/tune from bama. After my s/c install I got 19 city 27-28 highway and thats driving my car even harder with the s/c. I'm thinking its in the tune or my gt-500 pumps or something:eek:Whats also weird is my tuner said he mademy tune a little rich so IDK..

29 * 14= 406 23* 14= 322 That’s 84 extra miles or about extra 3 gallons of gas.

Lets take the avg of 12,000 miles driven a year and that’s

12,000/29= 413.79@ $3.00=$1241.37

12,000/23=521.74@ $3.00=1565.22

This is where it gets fun; lets do 4 and 5 bucks

413.79@ $4.00=1655.16 521.74@ 4.00= 2086.96 That’s 431 bucks

413.79@ $5.00=2068.95 521.74@ $5.00=2608.7

That’s almost 600 bucks a year in GAS. & the way I drive my stang and I think the way he’ll drive it; it’ll be a lot more. I LOVE MY STANG; but I don’t know if its right for him. I’m mad I all ready have 30k miles on it...lol, but 250k….

I get 19-20 mpg with a mix of 30% city and 70% highway. If you are doing 95% highway driving and keep on your maint. I believe you can get 250K out of a mustang however you will paymore in gas no question.

Folks on this forum love these cars so they don't really care about the extra gas it burns and we all think they are easy to work on for the most part.

I just got my car last week, but I have seen as high as 27.5 mpg on the highway (computer reading)when driving conservatively. My combined cycle has averaged 20.5 mpg (two tanks).

I am having the dealer install a Steeda CAI/tune, underdrive pulleys, and an aluminum driveshaft next week. All of these items are supposed to improve gas mileage as well as performance. I will report back my results.

I have a strictly stock '07 GT/CS and I usually get around 17-18 around town and 21 town/hwy. I also believe the brand of gas you get also contributes. I got gas from the local BJ's and my MPG went down to 13 !!!!! Last time I got gas there. I have not done a complete hwy trip yet but want to see what it does.
The gas may be costly but the love of the ride & Mustang feeling is well worth it to me. :D

Mine is daily driver, get average of 18-19 MPG. 80% or so of my miles are on interstate. Got 28K on her and she's only been to shop once for backseat plastic interior panel wasn't installed correctly at factory. Also had the infamous bell housing rattle (only when cold) and a rattle in drivers side A-pillar. Love it, even after 2 1/2 years.

Thanks everyone!!! I do 800-1400 miles/week... I spend~ 300$/month on gas in my 33mpg Corolla:) I can imagine my bill with 8 cyl Stang:) Well, I still like it! ( Will probably keep Rolla too )

Sonic, do you take the amount of gallons that the pump reads and then divide your miles by that, or are you going by your cars computer? The computer calculation is probably messed up now that you have many new fuel system components.
