Default Questons

I don't know much about stereos and stuff but I refuse to pay somebody to put mine in so before I tackle that jobI have a few questons
1. My head unit says 4 channel, does that mean it can only be hooked up to 4 speakers?
2. I got a cheap amp from somebody, it is a Rockford Fosgate 4.6X 300 watt amp. Is it any good?
3. What goes into hooking up an amp? Do I just plug in the wires in the back of the amp to the back of the head unit? Where do I get the power source for the amp?
Any answers would be much appreciated

Default RE: Questons

a 4 channel amp means that it is originally intended to run 4 speakers, but through series or parallel wiring you can drive as many speakers as you want, but more speakers means they will get less power/speaker.

2. RF makes good stuff. It is not the best and certianly not the worst

3. Well, yes and no. You will need to run a power wire from the battery, to the amp fused with in 12" of the battery as well as a chassis ground. For the signal input you will need to run rca's from the deck to the amp, as well as the remote turn on wire which is comming/going to the same place. The final part is the output that is just spaeaker wires from the amp to each speaker. It is not rocket surgery(how many rocket surgons do you know?) but you can do some significant damage to your car with an "I don't need no help I can do it all myself" attitude. While it is not rocket surgery you need to know your limits.... If you have never done an amp before I would really recomend finding a buddy with SOME experience.

What is in the car now?

Default RE: Questons

Right now the car has the stock head unit (90 LX) and pioneer speakers in the dash, pioneer 6x8's in the back with Sony Xplode door speakers. I'm too poor to buy subs right now so I make do with what came in the car.
I figure that I should eventually learn how to do this stuff anyway, I can rebuild a motor and paint a car so I should be able to hook up a stereo. But it sounds more complicated than I imagined.
