my mods

MY 1989 FORD MUSTANG LX VERT AOD5.0 MODIFICATIONS SO FAR 4.10's, professional products typhoon intake, 70mm bbk throttle body, and spacer, stock mass air sensor, bbk cold air intake, stock headers, BBK offroad (no cat's) H pipe, midpipe back flowmasters, light weight pulleys, 3point strut bar on towers and firewall, aftermarket aluminum radiator, shift kit, and "internal work" said this one shop that clamed they did $2000 in work to the AOD tranny. weld racing drag light weight wheels, bf goodrich radial t/a's rubber. and im sure im forgetting a few things

his car is a stock '08 wrx manual

i know the power is pretty close for both our cars, but with mine being a vert, im heavyer.

also he just got the car, so his driving isent going to be perfect.


my tires hold pretty good, but i can only rev to about 1k rpm before my tires spin to come off the line, (crapy stock stall converter)

there was no 03 STI, started in 2004

but 08 WRX is making around 220whp bone stock and can cut 1.7-1.8 60 foots stock

but im thinking your fox is probably a mid 14 second car at best and the wrx is going to be a low 14 second car

i know hes got me on traction, and he can launch the car at 5k rpm, BUT he just got the car a few days ago, so he wont beable to launch it perfect is what im hopin on

yea, if i had a 3000-3200 stall it would be game on, but im not expecting much to be honest.

like i said im hoping on the fact that he just got the car that he wont be able to drive that good.

stock his car makes (so says the review online) 224hp, and 226ft lbs, but at this elevation, its prob closer to -% 8-10

well if he is any kind of good driver he will launch on you with all wheel drive, i work at a subaru dealership and drive those wrxs everyday they accelerate quick but arent very good past second gear in my opinion, off the line he will take you, but ive raced a friend of mine i worked with while he was driving one and he pulled me off the line, but i also have bad tires right now.

horsepower ratings are to the flywheel, and with parasitic loss through AWD (more than RWD, which is more than FWD)hes lucky to be making 160 AWHP(put RWHP bu accident >_<)

YOU (im not seeing heads, just intake... and 4.10s, maybe 235,240, you might be getting 170


dont quote my math, but you are DEFINATELY making more wheel horsepower than him if your car is in good condition, if its suffering from old age, however, youll be about the same

he should rape you off the line if you have a chitty converter, but like you said, he probably cant launch worth a horses last ****, however, with some sticky tires and a good converter, you should be able to get similar launches.

My guess is youll have him until he can drive, and when he can, he'll have you until you finish the H/C/I /new convert,

well ended up he wussed out, lol.

his relive showed up 15min early, and mine showed up 20min LATE....... so he left....

i looked the car over, the fit and finish is GREAT, i love the inside, and the color is great.

the engine looks like a f-ing headace, no room anywhere, i couldent imagine working on that thing!


i took a few pictures while i was on break, i also christened his car by doing a small burnout with my car backed up right on it, hahahaha.


ill post the picture up tommarow just to prove im not making up any ****, but i plan on racing his ASAP, might be tommarow, but we are going out on friday, so ill figure something out.

God, is it just me or do Imprezas keep getting uglier?!

your car will suffer more from the high elevation than his turbocharged car will

also the 2008 WRX makes 220WHP stock, its underrated, but yeah i hate the new bodystyle :(

to be 100% honest......... the WRXwould be the car i would drive....... if i had 2-3 KIDS.......

i have 0 kids, so for the $24,000 hes paying on this thing (he put 5k dwn, so 19k left) it wouldent take me a second to walk right past the WRX and strait to a new mustang GT for that kinda money.

hell if his $24,000 car whoops up on mine, im not really going to be all butt hurt about it.

if i put $2k into my car id stay with him easy if he beats me, $5k into my car, and he would be chasing me (in a strait line)

yeah impreza's are getting uglier and uglier by the year.
they used to look nice for a 4 door.
now i wouldnt drive one if i got paid to:D

hell i could spend $3k-4k and slap a turbo on my car right now (stock heads, etc)

seen a couple ppl that have thrown 16PSI at stock heads and made 400hp
(couldent imagine STOCK power from 1-3k rpm, then all a sudden an extra 200hp come in on ya, lol)


the sounds a turboed 5.0 makes are a pretty pretty thing ;)

He should have you fairly easily.

I saw some people mention that he would have less power at the wheels because of the AWD, but theyre forgetting that he won't lose as much to the altitude as you, as he is turbo'd.

You guys in Springs at Ft. Carson? Just guessing because of the Mike Shaw dealer plates and that you have 'army' in your name.....I'm down in Denver off of 470 and Broadway, if you have any idea where that is, even though I'm over in Qatar right now

+1 to the turbo car doing better at high elevation, I am at around 3800 ft and the turbo cars up here always have the advantage

That is my answer to the whole ricer scene! These guys buy these civics and drop 20Gs to get them down in the 12 range.....and they think they are all tough

Just like you said, you drop a quarter of that in some american muscle.....you will smoke them!

BTW, this guy I work with has a WRX with close to 50Gs in mods.......he races it......it is CRAZY Fast......

But even though he has plenty of cash he still made me pay for my truck in Denver and my Jeep here.[:@] Can't really blame him though, seeing as he grew up dirt poor in the Texas panhandle. He was never given anything so I never get anything w/out working either

Well today was my day off, i had to go into work to get the address of the new place to get our uniforms talored.
Devin, the guy with the WRX was there, so i went and found him, and was messing with him that he should take a break, so we could go run around a lil, whitch he said no too, that he couldent.

well the nice guy i am, i took 2 of his uniforms for him to go get them talored, (mandatory by today, or a $25 fine, for not having our uniforms set up right) so when i came back it was 4:05 pm, 5min after he left, so i asked the guy the relived him to give him a call.
devin was just down the block, so turned around and came to get his shirts and such.

he dident mention anything about racing, but i said "so, wanna go around back and see what these can do?"

he agreed and we booked it to the back roads behind our work.

we took a left turn, no cars coming ether way (5ft median in the middle of a 4lane)

we came to a stop as soon as we both got strait, and as we did he revved his engine (building boost)
i on the otherhad did not, ever time i try to launch my car with revs (AOD) i burn the tires on the line, and have a ****ty launch.

i beeped 3 times, and we where off, of course with his AWD, and launching at 5k rpm, he jumped out infround by half a car, i started to reel him in, an when shifting into second, he lept out to 1 car in frount.
he stays out frount untill mid 3rd gear, where my AOD gets retarded and shifts early for OD, and it was over.

we turned back around to head back, lined up again, he reved like before, but this time i revved to 1k-1.2k rpm (anymore and my tires would start burning) he beeps this time and we stay neck and neck till the end of first, where i BARK into second, and all a sudden hes gone.......................BEHIND ME!

i kept going, and he was 3-4cars back, when i slowed back down he said "i turned off traction control, and it just lit up the tires in second!"

idk if his car could do that, so ether hes telling the truth, or he missed second.




all and all a cool race, i think our cars are pretty even.

if i had a 3200 stall, an fixed my shift kit to where it shifts at 5500rpm instead of 5k rpm, an it wouldent shift early out of third, i would have murdered him.

but i dont have the money for a while to do anything to my car, and he happens to have alot, and ready to mod the hell out of his.

im pretty sure our cars will never be this even again for a long time, untill i can decide if i want to do heads, or turbo, or w/e (to many choices)

so all and all a cool race.


not bad for my 19yr old mustang that cost me (in total money invested as of right now) about $6k agest a BRAND NEW $24k car ^_^

Sounds like a nice race. I do see some inconsisency w/ his launches and think that once he gets it down, he will run on those launches. I have a friend w/ a WRX and he could put about two cars on me when I got a good launch. Done right, those things will run away from that line. Either way, good runs. No bashing intended. I think if you get some good tires, you will cut down that lead a good bit on the launch.

thanks guys, now its got me thinking what i need to do this car to get it going better


for now im just thinking tires, and tranny stuff, then add more pwr down the road, as thats going to cost me the most.

All depends in my opinion, If for some reason you can get you tires to hook I think you would have a good chance to take him.Make sure your tires are shook and warm befor you race good luck.
