Does anyone know if you can switch out our factory wheels to 18" wheels without any problems?  I thought it would be a simple swap out but when I look at the wheels I want to get, 18" chrome bullitts from Ford racing, on their website it says this:

Note: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory: -installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA -Installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory: -installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA

I currently have factory 16" wheels and I'm about to upgrade to 18".  Here's the link to the website:  http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=8970

Hey, I swear I was about to post this same question.  I want to switch from the stock 17s that come with the Pony Package and upgrade to these black Bullitt 18s.  Will there be any problems or issues from my end?  Thanks...

I don't know what the steering stops are for. Also do I have to change out anything like brakes? Someone said I have to change the front to GT brakes or can I just swap my factory 16's for the 18's without doing anything else?

It really depends on the offset of the wheel, I would avoid wheel spacers...IMO, anyway I went from 16" to 18" Ford Racing, first we did not use steering stops, then we turned the wheel all the way to one direction an it rubbed.....I have GT fender liners and front facia......for the "Ford Racing" 18" wheels with their offset......steering stops are made for the Ford Racing Wheel to go on the Ford Mustang, small spacers, inexpensive.....but you do need your front aligned again.....

Another item that may be needed is GT rotors and GT caliper brackets.....upgrade to GT front brakes.....I did when I installed the wheels.......

I just replaced my stock 16" with my 18"s, and have had no problem for about a month. I didn't replace anything with it.

And you all are running the V6 rotors and V6 caliper brackets up front?

Yep, and I have no issues.  Haven't had issues with rubbing, turning, or anything.

You really don't need to change anything!  Especially brakes and rotors lol.  I will be upgrading to bigger rotors for personal preference, not out of necessity of upgrading to 18" wheels.  I did, however, get bigger tires for the wheels.  The stockers were 215/65R16 with 16" wheels and I changed to 245/45-18 with 18" wheels.  Taller and wider.

the oem ford 18" like the ones on the shelbys CAN rub on the caliper of the v6 because the caliper is closer to the hub then the gt brakes. all you need to upgrade to gt brake are the caliper brackets and gt rotors the calipers are the same

This is correct, all the other posters that say they have no problems are not mounting "OEM" Ford 18" Bullitts, which are all put out by Ford Racing......

If you have a Pony Package.........I can't answer there, they may have the different Rotor and Caliper Brackets which come on the GT, then it would work fine.....

You would still need steering stops..........I did with 255 45 18's...

    Cheers!

That was the question. Ford factory OEM Flangeless Polished Bullitts
18x8.5 50mm offset rims with V6 caliper brackets and V6 rotors.
Does the fore mentioned rim interfer with the V6 caliper mounted
on a V6 caliper bracket with V6 rotors?
Or do I need to put one on and see for myself?

Someone once told me you'd need some kind of a computer flash for the new sized whees/tires so that the car can correctly measure your mileage with the larger wheels. Is this true?

....When will we come up with a definate answer because as cool as my stock 16's are they are too small...and I will probably hold off on 18's or 19's if there is a lot more work then just a swap involved ( I'm mechanically handicapped )

Not unless you put on some wierd size tire.
Stick with a rear tire diameter near stock and there are no issues.  Doesn't have to be perfect size match, but the farther off you get the more off your speedo gets (and computer decisions regarding engine management and shifting can begin to suffer.)
Wheel size makes no difference, only tire diameter for the rear tires.  (i.e. if the old tires were 27" and the new tires are 27" diam the computer doesnt' care or know if they are 15s or 22s...)

Here's a handy way to compare tires and wheels - http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/rt_specs.jsp
