i bought the bbk cai a few months ago, and it said it required no tune and was just bolt on. i put it on and it ran perfect but after a day or so, the check engine light came on, i didnt think anything of it, because it had came on about a week before because of the gas cap being loose, well i ended up taking it to ford, and the guy there's words exactly were "that aftermarket intake is making it run lean as a son of a bitch" so i replaced it with the stock part. but i just dont understand why it was causing it to run soo lean, and i dont know what i have to do to fix it, because i would like to put it back on. can anyone help me out?
if this helps... the intake was on for about a month with the engine light on, and it ran perfect, there was no sign of it running lean.
From what I've read even the intakes that say they don't need tunes.....need tunes. Our cars are so computer ran that making changes like the intake will make the car run lean and cause problems. My suggestion is keep your stock intake on until you can afford a tune.
P.S. it is always best to take your car to the dealer with your stock equipment, Some (most in my area) will find any reason to make you pay for anything wrong with your car.

It seems that any intake that is worth anything requires a tune. If you have one that doesn't, it's probably not doing much more than your stock air box. I can't tell you what to do, but I'm thinkin' that if I were in the same situation, I'd probably get sell the intake that you have and buy a good one with a tune. Look at the sponsors, there are several that will sell the c.a.i. and a tuner as a package deal.

Yeah, time for a tuner. Our cars are very computer sensitive to air-fuel changes. VMP,Bama,Brenspeed, plus a few more will fix you right up. Yes,it is a little expensive($379.00)but you WILL love the results! If your car is an automatic you WILL REALLY LOVE IT, it gets rid of that terrible downshift lag. THIS is the best first mod you can do to your V6 Mustang. I recommend VMP.
