This is going to be a long reply......The vin decoded: 6=year 66 R=assembly plant San Jose, Ca. 07=body style Hardtop T=engine code 200Six 141403= chasis number-supposedly the 41,403rd car off the asembly line at that plant.(Mustang production supposedly started with 100001).

The color and trim codes are tough to go by if you don't have the door tag. However, there are clues throughout the car that can give hints-look for spots that are hard to do over in a repaint:door jams, under the carpet, behind the rear seat, behind the door panels,.behind the front kick panels, sometimes even in the trunk areas or under the dash. Sometimes if we're REALLY lucky, we can find copies of the original build sheet under the seats or behind the instrument cluster wrapped around the wiring harness that will tell the whole story.

Post the color of the car and interior and I can give you the codes. Also most vendors sell books that have the info in it. You can find the codes for the trans/rear by looking for the little tags on them and using the letters/numbers to decode.  "The Mustang 64-1/2-70 Restoration Guide" byTom Corcoran and Earl Davis has loads of info. It isn't so much as a "how-to" but it does give lots of info and illustrations. I got mine at Barnes & Noble bookstore.

There is no Factory info left for the 65-66 cars, as Ford destroyed it years ago. Most of the decoding info out there is from experienced people who have studied many, many, many cars over the last 40 years.

Do you have access to a FAX machine?  If so, I can FAX you the info.

I was looking for a real comprehensive decoder for mustangs and other models and found a great one at the DataOne Software web site. The decoder is called XML VIN Decoder. Web page here - hope it helps: http://dataonesoftware.com/menu_XML_VIN_Decoder_3387
