hunterd557: dude
hunterd557: an M-body car is going to be horrible
JaktViggen 006: I say it won't
hunterd557: I don't care, unless you completely rebuild the car from the ground up
hunterd557: and at that point, you might as well have purchased a BETTER car
JaktViggen 006: whatcha think I AM gonna be doing?
hunterd557: which isn't hard
JaktViggen 006: is rebuilding it fron teh ground up
JaktViggen 006: do I mind?
JaktViggen 006: no
JaktViggen 006: because I love the car
hunterd557: *sigh*
JaktViggen 006: that's why
hunterd557: you do realize that you're getting in way over your head
hunterd557: and this is going to prove to be quite the laughing stock
JaktViggen 006: yup
JaktViggen 006: ik, but it's gonna be done

hunterd557: you know this
hunterd557: I just want you to be prepared for it
JaktViggen 006: I already am
hunterd557: until you prove me wrong or otherwise
JaktViggen 006: I've gotten it from B*** (Name censored for protection against humiliation)
JaktViggen 006: and A***(Name censored for protection against humiliation)
hunterd557: I'm going to ride it out and completely belittle this idea
JaktViggen 006: C*** (Name censored for protection against humiliation) thinks it'll be neat
hunterd557: because it IS a bad idea
hunterd557: oh
JaktViggen 006: suit yourself
hunterd557: it'd be neat

hunterd557: my Mustang will be a far better car
hunterd557: including the price of the car
JaktViggen 006: hah
hunterd557: for 30k
JaktViggen 006: how much are you paying for it?
JaktViggen 006: seriously
hunterd557: 17,400
hunterd557: so that gives you a 17,400 dollar head start
JaktViggen 006: yeah, I'll have the suspension and rearend done with that much
JaktViggen 006: (and the rollcage)
hunterd557: 500 bucks says that by the time you're done, my Miata and Mustang will be in a league far above your M-Body
hunterd557: 500 bucks
hunterd557: get in
JaktViggen 006: the engine will cost the rest
hunterd557: take it or leave it
JaktViggen 006: ok
hunterd557: I'll pay you in cash
hunterd557: but
hunterd557: you better be ready to pay me
JaktViggen 006: how bout...

JaktViggen 006: I'll probably get the car sometime between July and October
JaktViggen 006: probably August Sept-ish
JaktViggen 006: lets say 2 years for the build
hunterd557: 2 years?
hunterd557: you do know I only have 45 months on this plan?
hunterd557: LOL
hunterd557: okay
hunterd557: whatever
JaktViggen 006: yeah, gotta have cash to put it together

JaktViggen 006: we were just saying drifter and race car wise
hunterd557: okay
hunterd557: we'll do a seris of challenges
JaktViggen 006: no slicks
hunterd557: a set number of drift events, a set number of race events, and . . we'll even get others to drive the cars

Basically, my friend says that he can take a 1970s M-Body (described above) and best my Bullitt in 3 seperate events, course racing (Road Atlanta), autocross and drifting.

He set his magical "budget" at "under 30 grand".  If it costs him 30 grand, then he might as well just purchase a 2001 BMW M5 and mop the floor with my Mustang.

I don't get it, but it's whatever, also there's 500 bucks riding on the event. To add insult to injury, he has little to no track experience, he's never really raced sanction before and he hasn't even purchased the car  yet, nor is there any significant aftermarket for M-bodies as most don't even know what they look like.

I just shrug, he's my friend and all, but I'll gladly take his money, especially since I've warned him that this may not be the best of ideas.

depending on how much work goes into it & how smart he is about what needs to be done, it could very well outhandle your car in all aspects. daily driving, drifting, & at a road course. It would have to be taking it a bit far, but if you were up to it you could tube frame a car & get rid of most of the steel in it, reducing weight dramatically. lower the car. & build a suspension for it. if setup right or even decent it could anihalate your car.
Like i said depends on how much work is put into it. It's very doable.

< Idly wondering how cheaply a silhouette car could be built for in that part of the country . . . suitably tweaked so it can turn right as well as left . . . >
