So easy explanation. Car wont start. I roll to top center, it points at spark plug one. I try to start again, it turns over, but wont start. I roll to top center, it points to spark plug five. I swap the spark plugs (correctly). Try agian, just turns over. I roll top center and check agian, its back to pointing at the origonal spark plug one spot. So I return the spark plugs.

Whats up? Do I need to replace my distributer? What do I need to get my car running agian? Please help me.

Well, first off, what engine do you have??  Sounds like you most likely have a timing chain/gear problem going on, or a dist. gear to cam gear problem.  However, let us know which engine this is and we can steer you in the right direction on how to find out.

haha, good point, my77, guess I should have read that a little more carefully.  He was popping the cap 180 out, huh?  Sounds like maybe he should pull the dist., make SURE it is at TDC, and drop it again.  Hey Eclipzed, did you have the motor apart or something?

*sighs*

I was tolled about that. I guess I just figured that TC on the thing ment true top center.

Its the 2.8 V6.

Nope, motor has never been apart. Its current parked infront of Mcdonalds. It just wouldent start for me one day after work...

It really sucks cause its my daily commuter car... And it keeps failing me.

Edit: I did find one of my sparkplugs to be sorta destoryed. But I returned it, plugged in the new one and still nothing. This is really bugging me cause my girlfriend is coming soon, and I dont even have a vehicle to drive her around in!

This car has been one problem after another it seems. I'm getting tired of fighting with it. I cant find anything wrong with it. It did hit me that my timing belt might have snapped or something. Cause the vehicle just turns over, there is no will to start, and there are funny noises coming from inside the engine when this happens. Like really weird noises, squeks and all sorts of things.

if the timing chain snapped it wouldnt spin the rotor inside the distributor. sounds to me like you screwed things up worse when you started swapping plug wires around.

are you getting spark at all? have you held a spark plug wire against something grounded on the car and had someone crank the car over a few times to check?

are you getting fuel? when you move the carb throttle with your hand do you see gas squirt down into the motor?

Took spark plugs out, engine wont turn. Its seized up. I had my dad look at it who worked on older cars back during his oval track racing days.

sounds like its time for a 302 swap

in all seriousness you could probably grab a running junk yard 2.8 replacement motor for a couple hundred bucks
