View Full Version : Liquid Clay Bar
mac10chap 03-16-2008, 09:01 PM Just an FYI -
I just bought a bottle of the Turtle Wax - Ice Liquid Clay Bar. I must admit that besides the $13 price tag, it works pretty good and with much less effort than a regular clay bar.
I am sure that many peope out there are just like me that waste a lot of money trying out new cleaning products. I just think it would be nice to be able to get other people's thoughts on new products.
Either way, give it a try...that is all
mac10chap 03-16-2008, 09:02 PM well ****...just realized that we have a detailing section on here...lol, i've been a member here for a few years now and never realized that...learn something new every day huh???
MrSandman 03-16-2008, 09:04 PM I'm curious how it actually works.
mac10chap 03-16-2008, 09:12 PM i'm not sure...all i know is that i did half my hood and stood back to compare the sides...(i had just done a liquid wax 4 days ago)...it was like night and day. the clayed side looked damn near brand new. it says something about a triple layer cleaning process or something...who knows, looked good though
ThumperMX113 03-16-2008, 09:21 PM It's a cleaner wax, just like the one the Meguiars "Consumer" line has ... It's garbage compared to a clay bar.
2007CalSpec 03-16-2008, 09:26 PM Is this liquid clay bar supposed to pick up contaminants like a real clay bar? I don't see how it could. So why have the words "clay bar" inthe name? Isn't it just a wax?
ThumperMX113 03-16-2008, 09:27 PM It's a cleaner wax, it'll remove ***minor*** stuff compared to a clay bar.
Shaguarama 03-16-2008, 09:44 PM I'm sure it makes a good cleaner wax, but it doesn't compare to a real clay bar. The purpose of a clay bar isn't to make a car shinier, it it to remove the contaminants and particles stuck in the paint. After claying a car properly the surface of the paint should be smooth as glass with no roughness on the surface.
The proper way to do this is to first take the clay bar and make it into a a round pancake about 4-5 inches in diameter. Then, working on a clean surface take some spray detailer(such as mothers)and lightly mist the surface. I like toclay1-2 sq. ft sections at a time.If you don't use enough detailerthe clay bar will stick to the paint. Using too much is just a waste. You want to move the clay bar over the surface in a cross pattern first going across the car then going from front to back. Do this until the surface is smooth. Then wipe with a microfiber and move onto the next section. -Andrew
TPony 03-16-2008, 09:49 PM Hmmm...interesting, but I think I'll stick with the actual bar...
miloman 03-16-2008, 11:18 PM I've tried the liquid clay bar; attempted to get the hard water stains off my car. The $hit is exactly that..........$hit. Did absolutely nothing to the stains.
JJSoCrazy 03-16-2008, 11:27 PM Mothers!

your sig is enormous
Whiteflash454 03-17-2008, 01:20 AM just clayed and waxed my car 2 days ago...i love peeking my head out the window to look how shiny it looks.....claying FTW!!! by the wya I used mothers clay ..i have used meguiars before though both work great
brendend 03-17-2008, 01:29 AM how long dose clay bar take? from what i saw the weather is going to be nice all day near me tomorrow and my car is in dire need of a good cleaning. i just dont have all day to do it.
Whiteflash454 03-17-2008, 01:39 AM after u wash it..the claying part should take no longer than a hour
I've used the Turtlewax Liquid Claybar and it does a decent job for a surface with only minor blemishes and buildup. If you've let your finish go and it's in need of some serious cleaning, then I wouldn't use it. But if you maintain the finish then it's a very good, fast alternative.
matt07GT 03-17-2008, 07:39 AM So after you clay it are you supposed to wash it again? I was told to wash, clay, wash, wax. I think the 2nd wash is a little overkill........but if it has to be done...it has to be done.
Yes, it has to be washed after you clay in order to remove the clay residue and rinse the remaining contaminants that were lifted by the claying process away. You'll see why after you clay. You won't WANT to do anything else before you wash it again.
06VistaBlueGT 03-17-2008, 07:56 AM I clay my car twice a year, I tried the liquid last fall to see if was faster. I did the hood, then went back to the parts store to get a real clay bar. I wasn't impressed with the liquid. Once yo use a real clay bar, you'll understand. And yes, wash, clay wash, wax. It might take all day but the results are amazing.
Johnboy7701 03-17-2008, 08:21 AM They dont sell Clay Bars on the American Bases, and the only ones off the base are priced in Euro's, and plus import price gouge, so with the way the economy is back in the states I'll just have to wait another month and a half...
ThumperMX113 03-17-2008, 09:06 AM Washing after claying isn't needed unless you're claying properly. Do small sections and wipe it clean with a microfiber.

honestly man, there has got to be something wrong with your computer. my sig is not more than an inch bigger than your's on both sides and there are guys on here that have sigs twice the size of mine...if you are gonna keep complaining about it, contact a moderator...if not, then just let it go

I don't care how large your sig is but let me make a suggestion. Crop out most of the background so we can see your car better. The background in that photo is not that interesting. :)
mac10chap 03-17-2008, 11:39 AM duly noted...i am actually taking new pics today anyways...i'll see what i can muster up:D
Dan04COBRA 03-17-2008, 12:39 PM Your sig is 600x467.
Signature size rules are 500x250.
For people with a lower resolution on a small monitor, your signature looks huge.
miloman 03-17-2008, 11:22 PM I have a 22" monitor. Your sig really is HUGE.
matt07GT 03-18-2008, 07:52 AM So back to the clay bar......Will it make a difference for an 07GT that when not driven lives under a cover and gets washed every week?
NotStok 03-18-2008, 10:27 AM The Ice liquid clay is a half decent product, but it doesn't do nearly as much as a real clay bar does. If you have a car with relatively flawless paint, then have at 'er. But I switched back to Meguiars clay.;)

Doesn't matter if your car is parked in a bubble and never driven. Particles of crap are going to stick to your paint.
Using a clay bar is great.
