i find it funny that its all the guys complaining that have < 50 posts and all the guys with over 50 agree to the rule. i think it is good. its awful suspicious when someone with one post gets on here to sell things
Are you kidding me... For one... Have you heard of PayPal!? That is a very secure method of performing transactions through a forum, just as this one, and retaining your money back in case something is sold under false pretenses. Secondly... most people look into and join a forum for one of two reasons... To seek out information from others, or to post something for sale.
Odd how someone might want to try and sell something through a forum that offers classifieds... I would really like to challenge you to find statistically that all transactions on this board have been 100% fair and honest and not one person that posted up to the 50 post minimum has ever deceived another member of the forum.
As someone else stated prior in this thread... "50 posts are easy"... sure they are if I want to carelessly post "Free Bump" or "+1" to quickly get to the minimum required post number... but that seems to negate the whole nice warm and fuzzy feeling of a great transaction from an established poster.
The simple point I am trying to make is this, regardless of the 50 post minimum... if someone wants to deceive you or lie to you about a product or part they are selling... They will!!! That is why PayPal is a great safe guard for these types of transactions.
As a matter of fact, the board would be providing a much better service to establish that each member must have a PayPal account and must provide that account info to the Forum administrators for reasons of fraudulent behavior or activity. Further more, the board members could restrict classified posts until the PayPal account has been provided and verified through the board administrators.
If the idea is truly to provide a secure method of transaction for all members, then I have to say the 50 post rule will not truly provide that of which the board administrators seek.
you need 50 post to sell people you want to buy something or need something.....come on
Here is another valid point... Those with the intentions of theft and deception that have already posted their minimum required 50 postings... are now free to deceive any member including those new to the board... Where as those new to the board can make purchases and potentially get deceived... but you still can't post those items you have for sale regardless of your intentions.
The point here is that I purchased something from a member on this board and it did not fully meet the need... this was in part expected by me, but now I am not able to post one of the components of this very item I bought through this board up for sale because I do not have enough postings here!?
I am a bit confused by the logic...
As I stated previously... if the transactions go through PayPal, the buyer has recourse if the items are not as stated by the seller.
you need 50 post to sell people you want to buy something or need something.....come on
yea if you dont like it there is always ebay
Just curious... but why would you suggest someone go to eBay if your concern is security and honesty for those that could be taken advantage of?
We all know of the deception that occurs on eBay and the fraudulent transactions... Again I have to reference PayPal. Every transaction I have made on eBay was only through PayPal, and for good reason. I have had to use PayPal's service to get my money back through a bad transaction on eBay... and yes... I was successful, PayPal actually works and provides very secure transactions.
I am sorry for those that would be offended or bothered... but a requirement of 50 posts is not enough to ensure you will be able to trust a member that has joined this board.
Like I said, you want to offer a good method of security, make members provide a PayPal account and validate that account before allowing them to post classifieds!!!

As stated a couple times in this thread, Paypal is great but it wont get you money back all the time, in fact, its easy to get away with, just take the money out of paypal immediately and then paypal wont be able to get the funds back to you. This wont apply in all cases but does in most. I still agree paypal is the safest way to do any deal.

This is a stupid idea for the simple fact of the manpower required to actually make it worth while. Creating a paypal account is easy and there is no way to really verify anything other than you have a paypal account and people wanting to sell things would have to contact admin. 60 PMs a day to admin wanting to sell **** is annoying as hell honeslty. Then you want admin to actually verify that they have a paypal account? If this was all automated then that is one thing, but it wouldnt be. Its all done by people, people who VOLUNTEER time to help this section and try to keep people from getting ripped off.
You are right about one thing, if people are going to rip you off they probably will, but the rules we have now cut down on a lot of possible troublemakers IMO.

I have to say that the PayPal account is not a stupid idea by any means... Paypal requires a lot of info to become a verified member, including personal bank account info, which could be a stipulation for conduction any transaction through this forum.
You do have a point regarding the withdrawal of funds before a request is made for reimbursement, however, I'm sure Paypal has some recourse regarding that type of situation.
I will also agree that this would have to become an automated configuration for the site if it were to be utilized. With that being said... I'm sure there is someone out there familiar enough with SQL and willing to donate time to build this validation request for the board.
I can understand that this is not a quick or easy accomplisment... but it is one that could be of great benefit to those on the board... and make it for a nicer and safer community here.
