Hey all,

First time poster here. I've an 05 V6. After reading about people putting GT mufflers on their V6's I went and got myself a cheap one off eBay, thinking it would be a quick & easy swap. Took it to a mechanic and they recommended against me putting it on as the stock muffler had one hanger on a different side to the GT one plus a hanger at the back (on the muffler pipe itself). They recommended I take it to a different shop and have the back hanger welded on the new one at least.

So - a bit confused here. I don't want to break anything. Do all you guys really run with just the 2 hangers with no problems/extra vibrations?

Thanks!
John

I run dual gt takeoffs... after some tweaking I got rid of the extra vibrations.

i didn't think gt takeoff's required different hangers... but if so I'm sure there are some cheap places to buy them.

Ignore what the mechanic said, it is a 15 minute swap job and there are no vibrations and require no new or additional hangers.

Just simply remove old muffler, and put on new GT take off muffler, it will hold fine without problems with the 2 factory hangers.

It's real easy! Do it yourself. Also, the left side uses the same hangers as the right.

Thanks all for your replies. Sounds like the mechanic was being over cautious then.
I'll squeeze under the car tomorrow and give it a go myself.....

Yeah, he (the mechanic) basically flat out lied to you, I just replaced my muffler with a gt muffler a couple weeks ago on my 05 and the hangers are in the same place, I reused both.

I replaced mine as well and it was no problem.  I rent and so I don't always have a place to do my own work so I took it to a muffler shop and they put it on for $25 no questions asked.   The guy even saved the extra hardware from the V6 muffler gave it to me and said that another hanger would be overkill that the GT muffler was plenty tight.
