I love it...sounds better than any other V6 in town. I get compliments all the time and people mistake it for a V8. I would know better of course. But if you're getting a new muffler, then don't do it! Because you don't want to just chop off your muffler and leave it that way. I fabricated a pipe to where I took off the muffler and welded a 3" exhaust tip. It's basically the same thing as buying an SLP Loudmouth exhaust setup...pipes no muff.
But if you're getting a new muffler, then don't do it! Because you don't want to just chop off your muffler and leave it that way.
Wait why? I'm just going to unbolt the muffler, keep it that way for like a day or two, then when the real muffler comes i'll just bolt that bad boy on.
If you don't fabricate a pipe where you cut it off, that's where you WILL get the uneven sound of the car. Also, the carbon monoxide danger is a possibility if you do it this way too. I would just wait for your new one to come in. You'll see when you install the new one how it would sound the way you want to do it.

Also, that muffler keeps the pipe secure. You would have to disco at the large clamp at the Y and remove the back pipe, or it may loosen and interfere with your rear suspension/axle.
I had mine off for a long time. It wont cause any problems with your car. But if you take it off you might not want to put your new muffler on because you will like it better with out it.

i had mine off for a while but almost got pulled for not having a muffler... it wont damage anything.. youll get annoying drone because the pipe is releasing under the car instead of out the back... the pipe will bounce around more so be careful for all the bumps and pot holes.. as for monoxide as long as its not sitting in idle you wont have a problem... the airflow under the car will carry it away.. plus its just for a couple of days

Hi John, I am one for recommending that you can take the muffler off and live with the great V8 sound you'll get by doing this. I'm like one of the guys above and have had my muffler gone for a year now. I'm running JBA shorty headers into the stock cats and y-pipe with a Pypes mid-pipe into one of their muffler delete tailpipes with a 4 inch tip. Works for me and is a good solid system with all the right attachments. Jack
I think "pypes" has a muffeler delete tube for the 4.0. got to "you tube" to hear it. it sounds about the same as the "pypes" axle back exaust muffler replacement. I have done a lot of research and the one i think I am going to but is the "pypes" axle back muffeler for only about $130 a total steal for 4.0 exhaust
Yeah I have seen that pypes mid-muffler delete system, it sounds pretty nice.
I'm just going to stick with my GT Muffler, and maybe try that no muffler for a day. I'll also make a little sound clip of both, and compare it with stock.
Are you guys serious????!! Our cars without a muffler sound like junk. I took mine off last summer while "experimenting" with different set ups. Upon startup, it did sound cool-- very similar to a V8, but once the engine is warmed up, the exhaust noise quiets down, and all I heard was air puffing out of the pipe and a quiet, mellow engine gurgling that did not sound like a V8 at all.
I was literally embarrassed to step on it on the streets. It rumbled like a cheap dishwasher. I even had a friend drive it so I could hear it go by, and it sounded really bad--ear piercingly bad.
Not only did it sound bad, I could feel performance loss! My car didn't take off as quickly.
I tried duals without mufflers-- sounded even worse than before. When I added mufflers, I could feel a power increase. Not enough back pressure before? I don't know.. but I did feel a negative difference without a muffler.
It's probably ok to try out for a couple days since you're curious... that 's why I did it. But really... have a friend drive your car so you can hear it from the outside... it'll change you opinion.

You will not run into any issues if you run it for a short period of time. The only possible problem that you will run into is extra stress on the hangers that hold the pipes up, as the muffler helps hold it also. If you only do it for a few days, you should be fine though.
However, it is quite commonly known that our cars sound BAD. There are two things that make our cars sounds okay. First is the muffler, second are the cats. Some people cant tell the difference between a good sounding exhaust and a loud exhaust. If you want a good sounding car, you need to stay pretty safe with the exhaust setups (unlike the GTs). That is why when you put on the wrong mufflers, the cars sound like ****. You put on the wrong headers, the car sounds like ****. You take off the mufflers, the car sounds like ****. You take off the cats, the car sounds like ****. ("****" is my opinion, some people love it)

Take it from someone who ACTUALLY read into exhuast before diving into anything.
