I've been think about running straight pipes for awhile now but, after hearing various soundclips of different exhausts, none have really caught my attention at all. Again maybe its probably just the quality of the equipment as someone stated earlier. This would have been my best bet since I did the same to my V6 Camaro when I had it. It sounded great but, a little whiny at higher RPMs but still the closest to coming to sound like a V8 as I could. I think Sally said that its one of those things u have to listen in person to really get a feel for. I think I would do the same if I had a new exhaust coming in too but, since I dont LOL do what u want!

My brother has an 02' Mustang GT, he has Bassani exhaust with mid muffler deletes. Man, his car is amazingly loud. It sounds good, but it is kinda too loud. I don't think that the V6'ers can pull off that sound, but maybe the loudness.

I get what you're saying.  That's why I suggested for him not to do it if he was just going to take of the muffler and leave it that way.  It doesn't sound that great if you do it.  But what I meant by fabricating the exhuast pipe is that we put (I don't know if this is the right word to explain) two slats inside going diagonal across each other.  It's hard to explain but basically it's not just a simple straight pipe.  The pipe itself was 2.5" so I got a 3.5" tip to expand the sound.  Not really different sounding, just not as high pitched.

I really don't think exhaust sound clips get the true sound of a car.  I think most people should hear it in person before buying a setup.  Unless they are willing to splurge the money and see if it's the same as what they heard.  But as far as a straight pipe goes...there is fabrication involved just like in a muffler.  Adding an exhaust tip makes a noticeable difference when it comes to sound.

4.0 Stang- I plan on purchasing the same parts from Pypes to convert my car to duals

Not the tip, the fabrication inside the pipe.

ORIGINAL: 05MustangSally

You are right, sound clips don't give you quite the true sound of the car.  And on that note, I think straight pipes sound worse in person than they do in the clips (I tried it).  In this clip:   http://marklhammond.googlepages.com/05MustangV6nomuffler.mpg
they don't even rev it to that high of an RPM where it sounds way worse.  Having no muffler sounds decent at the low RPMs, it's the mid and high RPM's where it starts to sound like a sick goose.

Once again, the OP was talking about removing the muffler and running the setup just like that.  Not adding "fabrication inside the pipe", whatever that means.  What exactly do you mean by that?  If you are fabricating something inside the pipe, that's not straight pipes.  Straight pipes are exactly that: pipes off the cats; no mufflers, no mid-mufflers, no resonators, no "fabrication inside the pipe."  And even if he DID decide to run two more feet of pipe and add a tip, I really don't agree at all that adding a tip makes a difference in sound.  Slap a tip on the stock muffler and tell me if it makes our cars sound mean or throaty.

Not trying to bust your stones, but I wouldn't want somebody to think they are going to have a sweet sounding exhaust, so they take off their stock muffler and think adding a tip is going to make a "noticeable difference" so they pay a shop to run two more feet and add a fancy new chrome tip, get on the road and really get on it....and be disappointed.

if anyone thinks about doing this, they should just take the muffler off themselves, take the car for a spin and get on it.  Sure the car sounds pretty good in the low RPMs.  See if it sounds that good in the higher RPMs.  If you like the flatulent sound being emitted from the rear of your car, more power to ya.  But don't spend any money on it until you've heard it in person and made up your own mind. [/rant]

Fact is it was a V8, not a V6.  So it would sound nice as hell and loud as hell.  We won't get that sound period...but we can always try to come close

Just posted in another thread about this.

If you're going for the no muffler sound, I'd say order a single Boom-Tube axleback or go with cut-outs.

I already have the H pipe JBA duals for long trips or when the weather is going to be very wet.
But when its dry and I'm staying local...

Sounds amazing.

Gotchya.  I've never heard of people putting in those slats.  so it's kind of like baffles inside the piping, interesting.

O.K. before you take off your muffler you may want to remeber that if you do run without it for awhile it may cause damage.  If you are running a stock engine without headers and take off the muffler that exhaust will not create the correct amount of back pressure and can damage the valves in your car.   It may take awhile but those things are there for a reason.  That is why you never ever run without an exhuast maniford or a pair of headers.  Leave the muffler on and put on the new one when it arrives.

I'm just going to do it for a day, like no longer than 10 miles. I just want to see how it drives/sounds.

No way will I do that on a long term use, that would be very stupid of me.

How bad can it be because I know lots of people who dont run mufflers.

It's not about running without mufflers.  It is about how far back on your exhaust you are running without mufflers.

Sally has baffles in hers, that is almost the same as running a muffler but with much fewer baffles.

Pulling off your mufflers isn't going to hurt anything except a little (teeny tiny) back pressure.  But pulling off your midpipes will cause you to lose quiet a bit of back pressure.

Have you tried out an MRT Aeroturbine yet? I just took mine off (was forced to) and I already miss it. It was the LOUDEST exhaust I have heard. It was even louder than many of the v8 mufflers (aftermarket) that 2 of my friends use.

It was tested and rated at 116 decibels...

If you are interested (or anyone else) PM me a message. I was wanting around $200 shipped for it (total) but am open to any offers. It's pretty new still... Info is here http://www.mustangforums.com/m_4759921/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#4759921

I loved how deep it sounded when it was on. To me it sounded deeper than with having NO muffler on. Best and loudest exhaust i've had. Also, there is some drone but it is tolerable. My last car had some mean drone with the muffler (even for a 4 cyl) so this one wasn't even close to that much drone my last car had.

I drove around the first day w/ no muff before I installed my MRT Aeroturbine. I set off EVERY car alarm up and down the block when i reved it. I live in a coldasack (or however it's spelled) and there is a brick wall there so the sound just amplified it and it was ungodly loud. The MRT was loud as well but had a more refined deep and throatier sound to it. When it hit the higher revvs, it sounded like a british race car in a way (if you've ever watch the speed channel races). Sounded good to me :) Almost everywhere I drove I got compliments and turns of heads.

If no one buys my muffler, i'm going to probably try and add a resonator to it to tone it down a bit (so I don't get pulled again for it) and maybe if worse comes to worse and i have to take it to get "tested", throw some metal wool in there LMAO.

Pretty much said it   But yes, I have my muffler removed at the axle so I don't have any problems.  I'm at 62K miles right now and have had NO problems except for Ford TSBs.  The service department had no complaints on my exhaust setup and it did not void my warranty either.  Cutting your muffler off too far back WILL cause problems though, as most have mentioned.

I would like to note that louder isn't always better, especially with a sixer.  8's you can slap just about anything on and sound good, but with V6's the tone is of much more importance.

Doesn't matter how loud it is, unless it sounds good. The tone is the most important part. I'd rather have a more quiet, better sounding exhaust than some blasting loud fart canon.

i have mine off now and i hate it im putting mine back on, it may sound cool, but it causes parts in the interior to rattle, ans when the cars cold it back fires and pops really loud almost like shooting a shot gun out in the woods. i dont think anyone should do it. just wait to get a pipe or a new muffler so that its not under the car.
