Bought an 08 GT on Wednesday. I'm starting to get worried here. I have officially 24 miles on my car today. My 3rd gear grinds going into it. It seems halfway bad, i mean it doesn't prevent me from going into it, but it gives a good grind on the way. The dealer said it was perfectly normal durring my test drive, but i don't trust parasites so what do you think? I don't remember the 06 GT i traded in having any grinding issues.

I have to bring it in on Monday because i found a good, deep scratch right next to my headlight that is going to bug me until it's fixed, hopefully they help me out. Anyone able to give me some fuel for an arguement when i get in there to see if they will fix it?

I have it documented that it happened durring the test drive, but they said only bring it in if it continues happening after 100 miles. I REALLY don't want to wait that long for this thing to stop grinding, there's no way this is good for it. I'm just thankful i'm taking it easy to break it in, otherwise it might do some real damage.

Do you think it's safe to just life with it like that for a while then? I mean i don't want my gears all worn down from this. I spose it will be minimal damage when it is doing it durring the break-in period because of low rpm's.  I don't know, maybe i'm just paranoid.

Well personally I think it's safe... Mine did that and made it through ok...

Did I see you say you're from Chicago area somewhere? If you are, what dealer did you buy it from?

I would say since you have a 5yr 60k mile powertrain warranty, which would cover something like grinding gears to give it a month or two and see if it goes away with break-in.  If not they will surely fix it.  Hopefully you can get the scratch fixed, that I would bring it for promptly.

The scratch is robably going to have to get fixed outside and out of my own pocket i have a feeling. Unfortunately i just noticed it last night and dealers are closed on sundays

Mine does this only for the first few minutes of driving then goes away...maybe 1st 4 shifts, but it doesn't do it at all, if I shift slowly for those shifts...Seems this tranny has always had some issues with that...read this...

http://www.bullittarchive.com/1023.htm

I plan on taking mine in later to try to get a new tranny out of it, but its the syncros having to much fluid in the mix when its cold I believe is what this guy is trying to say...so you have to take it easy until the fluid warms up some...

P.S. Royal Purple Sycromax, doesn't get rid of it completely, but really smooths out the normal shifts...

I sort of like rough shifts. I am going to get the noisiest shifter i can find with solid CLANK  noises. But there's definately a difference from a noisy shift and a grind. I was telling the dealer it was a syncro problem but they kind of ignored that. rap87 how many miles are on your car? I REALLY don't feel like going through getting a new tranny on this thing.

Does it grind and still pop into gear or is it giving you problems getting into gear too?

The one upside to Woodfield Ford is that they'll overlook your mods and still do warranty work... just keep it in mind if any other dealer is giving you crap about anything...

i have a 08 bullitt and mine did this it was making me mad, i had alot of mustangs and never had this prob. but the older ones had a cable for the clutch, this one has a hydraulic clutch and when its cold the fluid is thick that is the prob.  i notice if you pump your clutch pedal 10 times so befor you leave it doesn't do it, try this and let me know

Well i took it for a spin. It seems like after it warms up a bit it doesn't do it. It grinds then pops into gear. I can feel it fight me a little and a lot of vibration from the grinding, but it's not like i have to pull it back and re-press the clutch, it still goes in, just gives me a little feedback. Pumping the clutch might work, but I really think it shouldn't have to come to that.

As for warranty work at Woodfield, it took just under 2 weeks of testing and me not having a car for them to decide my battery was shot. I told them it was shot, it probably cost them $800.00 in man hours to fix the $90 problem, which in the meantime had me -1 sportcar. I'll use them as a last resourt. Thanks for the tip

got my 08 gt in december and it had 11 miles on it. third gear was tough getting into and it grinded a bit. at 3800 miles, i have no problems.

i am, however, getting an mgw so that should put a smile on my face.

I have 5k miles on mine...basically I think the clutch pumping and all helps, because of the fluid deal causing the syncros not to mesh quickly, you need to get it heated up quickly for it to shift smooth...still wish we didn't have to mess with the crap though...

Ya, i'll just bring it to the dealer, i'm not going to mess with this garbage on a brand new car. It's like we're in the 70's with this kind of crap...o wait their clutches weren't hydrolic and didn't have this problem...

Please Post/PM what they say, very interested in this issue...seems alot of people have it, but when we start to try to talk about a resolution...nobody has one...also suprised if this many people have had the issue in past year mustangs and now in ours why this isn't more of a big deal...

I've had the same problem as all of you since new in Nov. The 3rd gear grinding goes away once the transmission has warmed up after say 10 mins of driving if its really cold. I thought I saw a post by someone who said Ford specified a different transmission fluid for '08 which might be causing this. Am curious to hear what the dealer says so please keep us posted.

Mine does this. Same exact thing, small grind going into third, and only third. Doesn't happen once warmed
up a bit, and it doesn't happen if I shift slow into third. Scares me when I forget. Sounds like lots of people
have the problem, but no resolution. I've not brought it in, only because by the time I get to the dealer,
they won't be able to reproduce it, so I'll lose it for at least 2/3 days (drop off, let sit overnight, tech reproduces
issue, fix it, let sit overnight again, test fix). Probably get a loaner, still, I'll probably bring it in in the fall if it's
still doing it.

Anyone just replace the fluid in the tranny and see if it helps?
