I think it's smart to ask for help from someone that's been driving longer than you've been alive.

Lesson #1 - the first day with your new license, sneak out of the house in the middle of the night.  Find a deserted road and go as fast as you can (max speed is critical to racing).  Aim for the first telephone pole you see and make sure your airbags deploy.  Safety first.

LMAO... now now Bickety.. hehehe... we all know the kid is a paragon of automotive knowledge here, but at least give "the mouth of the south" over there a chance to at least drive more than one night to prove he's the holy grail of driving before the voodoo dolls and needles come out of the closet.. LOL

All I asked was if anyone else found it alarming that a kid that doesn't even have his license yet is concerned about what appears to be street racing.  I'm sorry if you take that as a personal attack.  I am not e-thugging anyone.  In my opinion, you should be more concerned about passing your road test as opposed to what your car can or can't beat.  You're the one who tried to play it off like you weren't talking about street racing, even though you asked about going from a roll.  Then you start chirping about ACT scores.  Does it matter what my ACT score was?  I think I did pretty good in life irregardless of what it was (and back in my day, ACT didn't mean squat - it was all about the SAT).

So pretty please, with sugar on top, shut the f*ck up.

There is a reason why insurance is so high for teenagers with sports cars, most of them at my school have wrecked them doing something stupid

This  is more than likely very true.. however you're probably one of the few who realize this fact.. Unfortunately a majority of the one's we see on here are like our MENSA friend up there that thinks he's a car god at barely 16 with no license..  At least you seem to have your head in the right place unlike 85% of the teenage population in this place.. lol

A stock 96-98 cobra tops out at 154 mph.  Thats in 4th gear not 5th gear too.  I am 100% sure about this.

He now says it tops out at 140.

Well, it sounds like you and your friend don't know sh*t about cars even with your high ACT score.  And yes that cobra will beat your (daddy's) car with only 305/300 hp/tq.  Haha you dont even have a license BRASKI.

Now you don't need to be as bad as him with your choice of words, that's what sets you apart from somebody respectable on here rather than some fool starting trouble.  i do agree however his friend doesn't know much if he is maxing out at that..maybe he was maxing out 4th gear or something

Better?.  And yes 4th gear will do 154 in a 96-98 cobra so maybe theres something wrong with his car.  Btw did he get banned yet?

Well I'm sure your initial question was answered.  So here comes my thoughts and advice.

1.  If you are going to race, take it to a track and do it safely.
2.  When you are out driving, drive safely, wear your seatbelt, and always follow the traffic laws.
3.  Nobody is born a great driver, it takes time and experience.  Granted I've only been in one accident, but I banged up my car pretty good.  Because of that accident I've been away from my baby for 3 years.  I thought I was king of the world at 18, all it took was one other idiot kid in a toyota to run me off the road into a barrier wall.  Learn to drive safely and learn to read other drivers.

I know you don't want to be preached at, but you have your whole life to race and after some years of driving safely and learning how to be a safe and defensive driver street racing will either be less appealing to you or you will be able to look at the situation with a better mind set and do it safely.

Keep in mind, teenagers and individuals in their early twenties are known for having a difficult time when it comes to looking at consequences for actions.  I'm starting to realize now that a lot of the things I've done in the past few years were really stupid.  Especially since I recently got engaged and seem to have all sorts of things to live for now.

Stay safe friend, get your license and help clean up the young male driver reputation.

A stock 97 Cobra reaches top speed in 4th gear. When shifting to 5th at 155 mph, the engine drops out of its powerband and doesn't make enough power at that RPM to maintain speed. A 3.08 gear would give it a higher top speed as would a 4.30 (but in 5th). You can't just go by the power an engine makes and judge how fast it will go. Yes 96-98 Cobras made 305 hp, but that was at something like 6400 rpm. If you're going for top speed, you have to match your gear ratios (rear end plus transmission) to your engine's power band. The T-45's overdrive is for gas mileage, not for top speed. This applies to all cars. Aerodynamics obviously plays a big role as well.

IBTB     I guess the youngster with the incredible ACT has yet to learn tact.....or respect.

My 87GT 225hp.......147mph in 4th.....5th would drop off like stated before.

350hp in an R/T.....did they up the ponies or is it modded?  Yes, it's more horses than our "rustangs" but they won't beat them.....sorry brain boy

Sorry, not all of us are as bright as you, but in my case I have been driving/racing for over twice as long as you have been alive, have a graduate degree and nearly 300 college/graduate hours......so......go try to impress someone else. You have failed so far.

You are an embarrassment to your generation.  The only reason you aren't driving a new Mustang GT is that mom and pop couldn't swing the insurance (check past posts).  In another thread you state that you don't want to work this summer - you want to take it off.  You sound like a loser with a capital L.

I am not acting like a badass.  I call it like I see it.  I'd never have a problem saying what I've written to your face.  What are you going to do?  Beat me up?  Come on - who's trying to e-thug now.

If anyone wants a laugh, just check out this guy's past posts....16 year old, spoiled, lazy sack of sh!t.  Your parents must be proud.
