Try finding a well maintained 40 year old original mustang for less than 50k. In ten years, the S197 GT is going to be worth far more than that POS Honda ever cost new. American muscle cars build up their value over time, like a fine wine. The V8 GT especially is gonna be worth 100K in 40 years, simply because the high performance V8 engine in this country will be a long lost memory by then. The old adage applies. Buy low and sell high. They will never be a better bargain than right fricken now. My 06 GT is a very low mileage treasure that I love to drive and will keep for quite a while.

in 40 years... we will have run out of oil and everthing like cars, choppers, boats, planes, you name it, wont be running. I'm sure we'll invent some alternative means of transportation not running on oil, but that 40 year old gt aint gonna drive.

No worse than any other domestic car!
Actually, it probably is worse than most domestic cars these days. Remember back in '04 when Ford teased everyone with the promise of a retro Mustang. They had a cool design, it looked like it was the 60's again. Everyone had a hard on for one. Those of you guys that bought new '05's the second they hit the floor, paid stick for them. (Some more...Shame on you.) Ford's marketing team had everybody and their brother revved up for this amazing new Mustang. So now there were a line of people that absolutely HAD to have them. They not only drew from the current Mustang crowd, as well as people that wouldn't have bought a Mustang in the past for any reason. But now they like this new car.
So they were flying off the lots as fast and dealers could get them. There were orders piled to the ceilings for these thing. Ford pumped out a billion of them. All of the sudden, the "new" wore off. Ford was still hammering out as many as they could. Except now there are 20 of them on every dealers lot. There are incentives now, not to mention any joe schmoe can roll in, pay invoice less the rebate at any time of the day. So the cars that are 30K on the sticker, are now selling for 23K. The used cars that used to be 23K are now 17K. Except theres an assload of used ones because people that "JUST HAD" to have this new Mustang...Didn't put a lot of thought into it, and a lot of those people, either couldn't afford it, or it's not practical for them...Blah Blah Blah. (Insert your own reason here)
Here come the low mileage used ones. These cars are now 17K. The cars that were 17K are now 14K.
Now it's SO cheap to find low mile used ones, that people aren't buying as many new ones. And why would you? If you could have one with 5,000 miles on it for $17,000. Here come more rebates and incentives. Blah blah blah, used ones will be on par with a new edge in the next 2 years.
This is what always amazes me about the marketing departments. It's all about getting people hyped for the initial product release. Then sell as many cars as you can RIGHT NOW!
Didn't they think they'd want to keep selling them 2 years later? Here we are in 2008, and an S197's appeal has just about worn off. They're already talking about a redesign for '09. Why? Because they butchered the market so fast, they have to do something to sell you another Mustang.

Rebates and incentives kill the market. But we have got to keep the assembly lines moving right.I bought a new Dodge truck in 04,When the 05 GTO came out I had to have it!Trade in on my truck back then was so poor that I nearly **** myself!Did a little research and figured out those sweet incentives only serve to kill the market.Well with the Mustang as it's been stated it's a little different,They overloaded the market.BTW I just bought my LAST new car,An 08 Bullitt.I have been lucky enough to keep on making money in a market where the cookie cutter jobs have all but moved away. But it may not last forever.
I was thinking of selling my 66 and getting a Bullitt for $ 34k but now not so sure. My 66 goes up in value each year while a new one goes down. There also seems to be a glut of Mustang "collector" cars out there that are sitting on the Ford dealer lots. The economy and gas prices may be hurting the peformance car market. Even the ZO6 is now being discounted and the SRT8's also. This could be a reprise of the early 70's when you couldn't give muscle cars away.
Who cares if it loses value in the short term? Doesn't make it less fun to pimp and ride!
I sorta agree. This is a big issue to ppl who didn't think out their decision too well and are now looking to trade in or sell their S197. Those of us who bought what we wanted and don't regret it have no intention of unloading our GT's for whatever we can get. I plan to keep this car and run the s**t outta it till the wheels fall off. I've already gotten an offer from a dealership for 20K because they had a couple of customers looking for s/c'd GTs. It was tempting, considering thats 10K more than my payoff and easily covers the costs of every mod I've done so far. But I just couldn't do it. No new muscle ride coming out in the next year or two will drive or go as well as my GT does right now for the money I paid.
Then again, I've never been one of these ppl that drives a car for 2 or 3 years and then starts looking to trade in. If you're changing up vehicles at that frequency, you should look into leasing rather than buying.
Come on... is this really a serious discussion???? You bought a Mustang GT (a V8) and people are actually complaining about the gas mileage.... Autos depreciate and gas costs money. I don't know about you folks - but I bought mine because I wanted a MUSTANG!!! And I wanted the GT!!! The enjoyment I get from blasting past that moron who is driving like a dumba**... or just going when I hit the throttle... is well worth whatever stupid depreciation cost or the extra $15 a week I probably pay in gas... If you don't get it... maybe you should go get some Honda or Toyota hybrid....

These cars were $30,000 brand new and in just three years they've lost half their value. Even 2005 honda civics sell for more than this. Btw this isn't the only one for the price I've found. Several are selling in the 15-16k range. Maybe because the market is flooded with them since gas prices are so high.
if mustang are cheap, go in your bank account and pull out 15 grand
