Are you talking about needing these hangers to hang the other GT muffler, or the replacement for the stock V6 one? I guess my real question is, if I get a GT takeoff muffler to replace my V6 one, do I need a hanger or will it fit directly where my current one is?

"Any company that claims that true duals will result in a loss of power needs to back it up with hard evidence, like a dyno sheet. "
What I have personally heard about power loss with true duals is that you might lose alittle low end torque but it didn't sound like very much (maybe 5-10ft/lbs) Personally I'm getting an entire GT exhaust system and making a cat-back system out of it. Couldn't pass it up only $200 for the entire system from the headers back to the muffler. I'll let everyone know how it goes in a couple of weeks after I put it on. I'm also gonna just have my valance cut to match. You really won't notice a difference unless it's in the air.

you only need to concern yourself with hangers if you're going to install the second muffler. when you replace the v6 muffler with the gt muffler you'll use the same hangers and there is a third, different hanger you will remove and won't need. Keep the bolts though in case you decide to hang one on the driver's side.

i'm walking out the door now to install my new hangers.

$200 sounds like a good deal. Looking forward to hearing from you on the results.

$200 for an entire GT system, Im envious.

I crawled under for a look today. The GT mufflers have 2 connection points. The one near the outlet looks like a direct fit. The other one that is near the inlet is 90 degrees out from the bracket that is on the car. So it looks like the only way to hang the GT muffler is by the clamp and one connection point near the outlet. Im going to the Ford lot and looking for a GT to see how those are hung.

Im also thinking about cutting the rear bumper for the other muffler, looks like an easy task for a body man.

the gt muffler slides right into the two hangers exactly as the v6 muffler does. the only difference is you won't be using the extra third hanger you removed when you uninstalled the v6 muffler.

i attempted to install muffler hangers for my driver-side GT muffler today and failed miserably! Sadly, I couldn't get any bolts in - it seemed impossible. So I'll be paying a muffler shop to hang it I suppose.

the last part of today's story that I cut the opening for my other tailpipe today with a box cutter! I made an outstanding stencil with the back of a spiral notebook, I measured and cut the opening in the correct location, and it turned out "ok". The part you cut is very thin so a good blade goes right through it but it was pretty nerve-wracking and I did accidentally make a couple of minor blade scratches and it could stand to have the edgs smoothed up a bit but overall I'm pleased and glad I did it myself. Only someone doing some intense visual scrutinizing would notice its imperfection.

so i'm going to see about completing my dual setup tomorrow morning. hopefully I'll have some good news to post.

toronado, Something is amiss on my car. If I lay my V6 and V8 mufflers side by side the mounting brackets are different.

Standing behind the car my V8 muffler has both hangers pointing toward the 6 o' clock position.

My V6 muffler has the rear hanger pointing toward the 6 o' clock position, but the hanger near the inlet points toward the 3 o' clock position.

Is that how yours looks? I havent looked closly at the hanger to see what kind of problem this is going to make. My two hangers on the car are different, are yours?

I take it the hanger you say you arent useing is the bracket that is welded on the V6 muffler with the 2 bolts securing it to the frame.

Any chance you can e-mail me a couple up close pics?

sorry no pics but when you remove the v6 muffler you should remove the "3 o'clock" hanger bracket too. only the two "6 o'clock" hangers will be used for the GT muffler.

Do I feel stupid. Every time I crawled under the car, I was on the inboard side. This morning I crawled under the outboard side. Behold! There is the missing hanger I couldnt find. Its all clear now.

How tough was it to cut the bumper cover? Takes alot of guts to start sawing on a new car.

Im still feeling pissy about the $38 hangers. I feel like Ford pulls a gun on me every time I walk in there.

If I cant find some in the j-yard, Im going to pull one off and get a buddy in the metal shop to fab me some up.

If you have a Dremel (rotary cutting tool) I would try using that instead of a box cutter. If the valance is as thin as you say, you'll make short work of it with a Dremel and it will give you nice, clean edges.

Nice thing about our V6 bumpers is the cutout is so far under the lip, minor blems will not be seen unless you are on your back.

Ok, Right side GT muffler on. Looks great. The car sounds and feels much better, Im surprised at how restrictive the V6 muffler was. I shined a light into both the V6 and V8 mufflers, The V8 has a much larger diameter pipe inside.

Now to just figure out how to run duals. I got on fordparts.com and I think I see the left side GT exhaust pipe. Im thinking its going to be spendy by the time I bought that, hangers, and fabbed up a crossover.

Maybe we can buy a catback less the mufflers. I like the GT's and want to use them.

I got my custom dual setup done today with my GT take-off mufflers. the way I did it is probably not the best way but it was cheap and I'm happy.

I'll post full details including pictures after I've had a few days to evaluate what I did. for now I'll just say it looks mean and sounds sweet. if performance was effected it is beyond my notice.

That's funny. He didn't notice the emblems were wrong for a GT?

i cant tell if you are qeustioning me so i will asume your not, its better that way, and i have seen a couple without the gt badge on the back, just like i have seen 4.0 on some and nothing on the side of many, and as for symbols it seems it the fog lights that really give the impression of a gt isnt it or am i wrong

I was talking about the other guy in the GT. I'm guessing he didn't see the pony on the trunk. I usually look for that before I look for dual exhaust. Although if I only saw a car from the front I go by the fog lights.

Hey guys im new here and I need some help,
I've read through your replies and I see that your all getting the mufflers at real cheap prices. I'd like to have 2 stock gt mufflers and I figure I could just take those plus the hangers and have a muffler shop deal with the rest. I went through ebay and couldn't find anything then went to a parts website and found this... http://www.parts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocatorKeySearch&siteid=213787&chapter= Now I see that you guys are paying like 80 dollars and i'm really just kind of lost on this whole process. Any help would be appreciated.

Roy,

If you go to eBay and search for "2005 Mustang muffler" the first hit is what you are looking for (first hit as of this moment at least).

Anyhow, Item number: 7967810100. Its around $40 for the mufflers and another $40 for shipping. Then another $80-$100 for hangers if you decide to install the second GT muffler. (hopefully someone will find a cheaper solution because buying the hangers was painful)

If you still cant find it on eBay just email the guy - mike@cascocompany.net

Thanks a ton toronado, you have no idea how much that helped. I don't know why but when I searched Ebay I couldn't find it.
