Default ? to those with Steeda CAI & Diablo

OK, this is for those of you running a Steeda CAI and using the Diablo Preditor on your GT.

What tune are you using? Did you use a tune from Steeda? Or the Steeda CAI specific tune that is on the Diablo web site? Or your own custom tune?
Anyone know the difference between the tune from Steeda and the tune from the Steeda CAI tune from the DiabloSport web site? If you use your own tune, what did you tweak from the Steeda or Diablo tune?

I got my Steeda CAI today. Installed, downloaded the Steeda CAI specific tune for my CALID from Diablo. Flashed the PCM. Good news is, no CEL. Now, as for drivability. When you stomp it, it runs like a spanked ape. No problems there. But normal driving, standard (light) acceleration, it feels like I am pulling a friggin trailer. At least up to 3k RPM. After that it seems to pick back up. But anything below that is kinda annoying. Pulling out of the garage and down my residential street to get to a main road, I actually had to look down and make sure that I didn't leave the parking brake on.

So I know that there are people out there that have not made it to a dyno yet. And yes...I know..get it on a dyno. Back to my point. There has to be people out there driving around with the CAI and a tune ( no dyno ). How does yours run? Notice anything similiar to what I am trying to describe? Did you adjust it out by adjusting your tune? If so, what did you adjust?

i used the steeda cai tune that came with the diablo from steeda but it also had the charge motion plate tune with it, and i think i kind of noticed some thing similar to what you are talking about but i guess i just really didn't want to ADMIT IT. i am having a dyno done in 2 weeks so i am hoping i can do a custom tune over the steeda tune with all the after market parts i have on my stang i am sure that some tweeking can be done to free up some lost power on a non spacific tune (that being the steeda tune)as well asthere are so manny more efficient parts working togeather.

Sounds like it might be the same tune that the Diablo site has for download. Was two tunes, just CAI and CAI+CM.

I was having the same problem with mine when I used the Steeda CAI tune that came with my Diablo from also purchased from Steeda.

I am currently using the Performance Tune that came in the Diablo and I am running the timing +4 and had to richen the mixture 1% otherwise check engine came on saying TOOOOO lean. I installed the Steed CAI at the same time. Using the Performance tune with these changes she runs great. Sounds mean too!

I did send an email to Gus at Steeda who has helped me in the past and he has yet to respond. That was last Thurday.

Interesting info. Thanks. Let me know if you get an answer out of Steeda.

Anyone else? Come on now, I know that there are more than 3 of us here running a Steeda CAI with the Diablo tune.

Talked to Steeda today about this issue. They say that no one other than me has reported it. The suggested "fix" from them was to always make sure I have the traction control turned off. Hummm..... not exactly sure how this is going to help, but I will try it for a day.

/WAVES THE BS FLAG. i can't see this fixing the prob either they get the tune right or you custom tune i don't see any other fix besides taking the cia off and the charge motion plates as well and just running stock (not an option for me). i also checked it out today when i was driving seems like it is off an on some times my stang takes off like a prom dress at prom night. (no hesitation if any one has not experienced that[:'(])and won't slow down till i let off the gas. and other times around 1500 to 2900 it seems like it is not as responsive as it once was with light working of the throttle. but if i romp on it all the way threw the power band it is responsive. maby i am imaging this but i am hoping with a custom tune it is more consistenly working for me instead of against me.

Well maybe if enough people start to complain about the same thing they will adjust their tune, or at least check in on it.
I did notice tonight that my air cleaner had partially slipped off of the retaining ring. I put it back on, tightened it some more, and it popped right back off. Just another tidbit in the saga

Got this reply from Steeda on that one already:

Sometimes there is oil residue on the inside diameter of the filter were it attaches to the velocity stack. Make sure you take something that will remove grease and clean this surface. Make sure to also clean the OD of the velocity stack. Also make sure the clamp is as close to the shield end of the filter as possible. This should help.

I did this to mine yesterday and it seems to be staying put 24 hours later.
