Yes... but I've personally witnessed an '02 SE-R Spec V with just intake, exhaust, and a header run a 9.6 in the 1/8 mile in 95 degree TX heat.  That'd be a 9.4-9.5 in good conditions, which beats a 94-98 GT 5spd, and gives a '99+ automatic convertible (yeah... I know) a run for it's money.

The QR25DE was not designed as an all out hardcore hp producer.  As you can see from the production numbers, the torque is what makes the QR25DE different from the SR20DE.  The SR has always been rather lacking in the torque department but it has the high revs capable of making higher hp numbers.  The QR has a low (very low for a 4 banger) redline simply because it is designed for torque, with hp just being a bonus.
A lightly modded SE-R Spec V would probably beat a stock 94-98 GT...
Depends on what "lightly modded" means for a 4 banger.  Hopefully more than the 10 horses you get from the 3 foot wing...
An 02 up Spec V puts out 180 torque at 4000 rpm. I had an 04 V for 11 days, and DAYUM...that thing was quick with the tight ass 6 sp and the 175 hp and all... A lightly modified one with I/H/E and cams could put out 220 hp easily.

Even with it's 100 mm bore and low redline, I know 300 hp isn't far off. Hell it's already been done with the new QR25DE.

The Vs run low to mid 15s from the factory. It's just a question of if you want to spend the extra 7k to get Mustang GT times for Mustang GT prices, which I hope we all know is possible....
I used to own a 02 Sentra and I know all about them.  The Spec V's claim 175 hp and 180 tq at the flywheel.  But on the dyno stock they put out 146whp and 149wtq.  So they are a little overrated.  They're nice but a little overrated in the#'s.  And the QR25DE is no where near as strong of a motor as a SR20DE.  Major engine internals are needed to top 250whp in a QR25 where as you begin to need internals at 500whp in a SR20.
You are so right, I agree with damn near everything you said. But I wanna see the V's dyno sheet before I can agree with the numbers you suggest.

Anything else to make this make-believe scenario better?  Automatic convertible?

For everyone that thinks you can't have a fast car w/out rwd then think about this.  Get a 91-92 SE-R which are the lightest, drop a SR20DET or maybe even the SR20DETT (first is turbo, second is twin turbo)  and you can do all that for about $8k.  $2k for the car and $4k for the engine and $2k for restoring the car a little.  Some people with stock Spec V's run 14.9's and you can pick a new one up for $15-17k.  I used to own the GXE model Sentra and they were quick for what they were.  Stock you can get one to run a 15.9 which for an economy car is quick with a 1.8 liter motor.  I love my Mustang, but honestly my 02 Sentra GXE which I got for $15k fully loaded is a much better built solid car than my $26k Mustang.  And my next project car will be a 91-92 SE-R.

Here are some links for some 1/4 mile times and dyno of the Spec V's.  The 04's seem to be better tuned than the 02-03's.

Just an idea of some #'s.  The newer Spec's can really give you a run if modded right and your Stang is stock.
