how many people do you know who only had their licence not even 9 months that have driven well over 50,000 miles..? i doubt theres too many. thats gotta be at least 200 miles a day.
Statistics show that approx 80% of viper accidents happen 10 min off the car lot. Reason is these cars have high horsepower but it is the torque that is the killer. People don't realize that with immense torque you can spin wheels at really low RPMs.
Shows how respect for your car can save your car and your life. With enough respect you wont do stupid stuff unless you know the prediction of the accident.
Poor kid. It is always the bystandard that gets hurt...in this case the non-driver. But then again I would never get in a open top car with no seatbelt. Way too easy to flyout.

im 19, i wrecked my car after i got it too, i had four people in my mustang and fishtailed around a turn and hit a fire hydrant, i hadnt been drinking but everyone else in the car was wasted and we were all underage.. the cop said that hes seen cases where the hydrant comes through the front windshield pretty much means death for the people in front (i.e. me... ) i got really lucky becuase no one got mip's, no one was hurt (barring a slight burn on me and my friends necks from the airbags), and well, i eventually got my car back, but not before owing my parents 3 grand. the moral is, there are places to drive fast and there are places you cant... the most ironic part is right after i bought the car, my friend that was sitting in the front seat when i wrecked said " you know were gonna die in this car right..."
That's horribly sad. Even worse is that the stupid 17 year old kid walked away with minor injuries. If I were the other kids parent's I'd be taking Andrew's father to court or something. I think they should both have to pay for their stupidity and lack of responsibility.
It's not how much you drive, it's how much performance miles you've driven.
Soccer moms have driven a 1/4 million miles, but they still don't know understeer from oversteer, most don't even know what a clutch is. Performance driving is about controlling a car at its limit.
That's because most soccor moms drive automatic minivans/SUVs and they don't drive them down the highway at 110 mph.

Sara Fisher and AJ Foyt IV both have less miles than you when they did their first Indy 500. Like I said, it's how many performance driving experience you've had.
You can drive 5,000,000 miles in a Ford Explore, and you'll still crash if you're asked to drive a Viper flat out without training. A kid might not even have his liscense, but if he's down years of formula karting or other proffessional racing, he'll do just fine.
I always wear my seat belt. Example is my friend had me sit in his car to hear his stero and i ahd my seatbelt on in the driveway, its just automatic reflex when gettin into a car. Here in minnesota, if you drive a RWD car in the winter, you will more then likely crash if you dont know how to drive it and control the power. This kid was an idiot for driving like a retard, and his dads very dumb for even letting him in a 50 foot radius of that car. The passenger was stupid for not having a seatbelt on... man so many stuipd people
its not the age its the kid. im was 16 when i bought my mustang and im 17 now, never hit anything or any points agianst my licence. my friends are the same way, one with a 95 firebird formula and another with a 11 second grand national. me and some of my other friends ride bikes too, i hide my dads honda shadow 1100 and my buddys GSXR 1000 with no problems. you just have to know your car or bike to control it.

it all depends on the drivers experence im 17 and i know i have some experience but not alote yet i have a 95 5.0 yet u learn by experence.. sry for the kid his dad should be beaten up. for the kid think about it how many of u at his age would have done anything to get in that car i know i would have hey experence + horsepower = greatness or tragedy
speed kills last year a Friend of a Friend had his dads GTA nice car mint his dad let him drive it all the time but one night for what ever reason he decided that he would hammer down on an old twisty road 3 in the morning ,he ended up going by my fathers house at about 120 MPH lost the back end hit the ditch and was air Bourne till he hit the second Floor of a house .the kid was 18 .he got out of the car after landing and took about two steps fell over back wards dead with a squashed head .he hit so hard that hes shoes came off .

There is a common theme among kids in fast cars who get into accidents. THEY DIDN'T BUY THEM. THEY DON'T PAY FOR REPAIRS. THEY OFTEN DON'T PAY FOR INSURANCE.
I personally don't think any parent should ever, under any circumstances, buy his or her son or daughter any car or pay for any expenses. Even cosigning a lease or loan is too much. You'll never really appreciate, protect, maintain, or otherwise take care of the car unless it's your own personal cash going into it. The difference in perspective changes everything. People tend to take much better care of cars they bought. You learn some quick lessons when your junker brakes down because you didn't put oil in it or maintain it properly. Most kids need to break in a few cars before they are ready.

I am 24 years old. I got my mustang 1 month ago. before that i drove an 89 taurus SHO for 3 years. before that i had an 89 escort, an 83 nissan datsun sentra, and my very first car was an 84 toyota corolla. i couldnt afford anything more than crap for the first few years i was driving, because i had to pay for them. i had to pay for my insurance too. and my gas. and obtain my liscense on my own. my parents wouldnt let me do any of this untill i was 17. it took my till i was 18 to save the money from my crappy teenage jobs to buy even the junkiest of cars. I worked my way up the ladder of vehicles slowly. with my own money. and it took me some time to get my mustang.... but i was READY to drive this car when i bought it. i havent wrecked a vehicle yet. and i can say confidently that had i been driving a mustang at 18, i probably would have wrecked it. kids who dont buy thier own cars, and are put into high performance vehicles at a young age are so much more likely to wreck them, than if they were driving a little econobox while they learned the rules of the road, and how to handle a car in all kinds of conditions... if anybody is even remotly surprised that a 17 year old wrecked a viper.... wow.... you'd have to be about as smart as the kids dad who handed him the keys. in my opinion, cars like that should not be allowed to be driven by drivers with less than 3 years having held a drivers liscense... minimum. sorry for the long winded post, but kids driving high powered cars gets to me.... things like this viper incident prove my point. -kevin
