Need help in buying the right

I just bought a 04 gt and want to change my stock wheels.  I have found other wheels that I like but the guy where I found the new wheels said that 18x9 wont work he said that they will rub in certain spots.  Is this true.  I know someone is laughing at me but I am new to the mustang and I want something different.

Lots of people put 18X9's on stangs, so I can't see you having a problem.  As long as you get wheels w/ the correct offsets and backspacing for your application.

18 x 9's (24mm) work fine as I have them on my 2003 Mach 1..with 275-35-18 tires, no problems. 24mm off set as said before is the correct fitment...actually I'm going to 18 x 10's in the rear so if you need (2) 18 x 9 Saleen S wheels let me know..$325.00 for the pair shipped to you in the 48 states...

What wheels did you buy? You should know the off set (ask the seller) as this is an important factor as to if the wheels will fit or not!!! Diameter (18")and width (9") are not the deciding factor of fit here, it's the off set. The wheels need to be 24mm to 26mm off set. Post a pix of the wheels.

I found another set of wheels and the off-set is +20mm/+40mm  will those fit incase these dont work?


Again thanks everyone for helping me out with this.  This place already screwed me on one set of wheels and tires.  The only reason why I am dealing with them again is so that I dont lose any money besides my shipping and handling.

** Yes, the wheels do have an off set, it just needs to be measured. Have them measure the off set (back spacing). Allthey need to do is measure fromthe mounting face to the edge of the rim (back side of the wheel).

** Don't think the off set is correct. IIRC..the off set should be between 24mm to 26mm.

** I'd see if they have somethihng else or ask them if they could get you another type of wheel from a reputable manufacturer. BTW..did you get these on eBay? If you don't have too much invested with them, maybe you could get lug nuts and locks or something so you won't lose a lot of $...or if they are local to you, maybe they can spring for free mounting and balancing of your new wheel/tire combination. The thing that bothers me here, is they do not know the off set, and that is a mandatory knowledge especially from a wheel manufacturer or wheel dealer....proceed with extreme caution IMHO..Good Luck...

I emailed the guy and he said the wheels that are posted have an off-set of 18mm.  Which the back spacing is 5.70". 


The other wheels that I found and said that they were +20mm/+40mm I asked him about that as well and he said that he could get the wheels in either +20mm or +40mm and they are 18x8.  So will either one of these work if I were to get 18X8" instead of the 18X9"?


Yes I did get them off e-bay and already sent the first set of wheels and tires back at my cost and to keep from losing the full price of what I paid I have to exchange them for something else or lose another 15% for restocking along with my shipping that I have had to pay for twice.  The only deal that he said he would give me is that if I were to exchange them he would pay for half the shipping on the exchange and if I were to buy tires from him he would mount and balance them for free.  But the same wheels he offers I can get them cheaper and free shipping.  So I am only going to buy wheels from him and thats it.


I hate not knowing what I am doing. LOL

** I am warry that with 18mm off sets that the wheels will not fit properly. With that off set the wheels will be too far in towards the body, leaving a big gap around the tires to the outside of the fender. Like people have previously answered, 24mm to 26mm is the correct off set spacing. I'd stick to that.

** First of all, did the seller specifically tell you that the wheels would fit your year and model Mustang? If he did then he's lying...and you'd have cause for action from eBay. Again, it's not the size of the wheel that matters, it's the off set or back spacing that determines the proper fit. So IMHO, these wheels are incorrect and will not fit properly. AND if you are as picky about your Stang as I am, you're NOT going to be happy with the wheels that are improperly off set.

** The solution may be an intervention from eBay as it is well documented that the proper off set for the Stang is 24mm to 26mm. Also you may want to take the money that you spent for the wheels and just buy the tires from him to save the $'s unless eBay intervenes and gets you a complete refund. If he is telling you and you have documentation that he has told you so (that the wheels aare the right off set for the Stang) maybe eBay can work out a refund. Worst case buy only the tires with the $'s you've already invested with the guy. Least expensive option. I hope this stuff will help you.

I went to 2 differnt web siteslooking for some other wheels and whet to there off set page to make sure I get the right fitting, and I looked up the off-sets they had listed and they both said +20mm for my car. 


I am so confused about all this.  You guys tell me +24mm-+26mm.  I just dont know what to do.
