I don't know if it is representative of the entire nation, but at my local Ford dealer they had mostly autos when I went to buy. It was like a three to one ratio auto to manual.

I'm not in love with the Tremec 3650, but I'm still glad I went with the manual. I have an auto in my other car, so this way I get to enjoy boy driving styles.

Funny you mention that!  When the S197's first hit the showroom floors in '05, I was told by a large Ford dealer that the majority of autos go northeast, sticks for the rest of the country, esp the south and the west.  (As well as verts, south and west, that one at least made sense to me).  Since then,'06 to today, I've seen alot more manuals on Ford dealer lots(and verts) around here ( here is NJ).

I don’t have the most recent Ford production numbers, but for 2005 the most popular GT color was black and of course equipped with a 5 speed manual.   The Black GT autos sold were about 1/2 of the manuals.  Expect the ratio of autos in this poll is because there is a large number of youngsters on the forum.
No offense intended to anyone.   I find it interesting so many youngsters nowadays drive autos because, when I was a youngster autos were something your father or grandfather drove.  Autos were a very un-cool thing, kind like you’re driving daddy’s car.

I was gonna keep quiet but...you still don't get it. A brick could do the same job as your right foot. I could care less if you'd beat me, at least I'm feeling what the motor's feeling. If you just want to pound it in a straight line and let a computer do the work so be it but don't for a second try to justify that that's the way a performance car should be driven...I'm pretty sure the peeps behind BMW, Porsche, Ferarri, and Lamborghini would feel the same way. An automatic is just a passionless, lifeless old gizzard that limps along in existance saying 1st dear, 2nd dear, third dear, fourth dear, I'm programmed this way dear. Where's the love, the connection between man and machine? All you got is point and squirt. I'm sure I'd get tired of that before my tank went dry...

You mean that it would take you that long??????????   One cycle up through the gears plus one instance of having to use the brake to hold the car still on level ground is enough to put me to the point of throwing in the towel.

Well said on the rest.

It's about being "on the same page" with the car's mechanical bits and getting some enjoyment out of working with them instead of either being out of step with and mentally fighting them or ignoring them entirely.  Think 'motorcycles'.  Or dancing.

(I'm desperately trying to avoid opening up any of the other control-by-design/control-from-elsewhere/control-by-distant-committee aspects of new car design even though they're sort of related.  GRRRRRR.)

Just so you know I was trying to make a joke and 2nd, every previous car or truck have all been manuals, 9 to be exact. I know what it means to be "connected " to the car/road. Thank you very much.

If you like to shift gears all the time, then a manual is for you. Me, I hate driving manuals, i can't stand driving my buddies 03 cobra.

I'll keep driving my auto and try not to laugh when you miss a gear.

I like the manual for lots of reasons 1st my wife don't like to drive a stick, 2nd all my other cars are auto's and its fun for me to get in my sport car and have it be different, 3rd you can drop the clutch, 4th You can mod to higher levels with a manual, 5th they cost less to buy or fix.

That being said if you want a auto, at least your getting a cool looking car.

I'm just tired of all the auto guy's who scream "I'll eat you when you blow a shift!" So ****ing what ( I can't remember the last time I blew a shift) if life and driving were only a straight line...is it only me or do you guys think "my poor ****ing brakes" when you step out of an auto?

Auto's are SO boring!  A monkey can drive an auto!  It takes skill racing a manual.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE a stick.  I wouldnt have even bought a stang if I had to get an auto!!!  HOWEVER   auto's suit some people better!  I dont live in the city and have to shift every second while driving.  That might get old!  BTW I was just teasing about the monkey comment!

You know, seeing all the bashing of certain products and things on this forum, I'll probably get bashed to hell for this, but here it goes.

I have an '08 Shelby GT, check the pictures, with the 5 speed auto and the Roushcharger added. It drives great, handles well in traffic, blows other cars away, and get's nothing but compliments. Even my diehard GM friend, who HATES autos loves my car.

If you wish to make fun of me, so be it, but I love Lilly.

You can't shift faster than this, I promise.
Here is a horrible, shaky video.
I spent $300 bucks on a tune... and look how fast it shifts.
When I turn out it gets sideways when it hits 2nd, and i'm all stock except for an intake.
I would be most impressed if you could out-shift that.

But yeah, auto. lol
