I have this nro here who owns a 99 LS1 Z28. This thing is some kinda freak, cause he has added a stall, long tubes, and done the free stuff like the airbox mods, he ran it at Darlington in 50 degree weather with a headwind of about 25 mph. We dropped the muffler and had some ET Streets under it. Heres where it gets interesting, he has 2.73 gears!!!! yeah no typo, 2.73 gears. Also the engine has never been apart, no cam, no porting, nothing. THis thing has minor bolt ons and highway gears and it pulled a jaw dropping, I kid you not he has the slip and I saw it with my own two eyes, missed gettin it on video, but trust me its no BS, an 11.96 @ 117 mph!! I have driven it, been all through the car, he doesnt even know how to use nitrous and I even checked the gear ratio by pullin the cover! it has 2.73 gears!
I also have a bro with an 03 Cobra but he hasnt gotten it out of the 12.8 range yet, after he gets back from the sandbox we will try the Cobra again. I cant wait to line these two up after we get more done on the Cobra, but by then the Z will have gears and a few other tricks and maybe turnin mid to low 11's. I didnt believe it either, but I do now. We are doin an article to send to the magazines because a few cars in our club havent broken 11's and they have ALOT more done to them than a converter and headers. He ran 12.1, 12.08 before that too and won the dash for cash race.
Flame if you want, say bs till you puke, I watched it happen. I about fell over. Heres the car at Darlington.

it's funny you mention puke cause that's what happens when you just look at the car... that is very fast...I'm not denying it's not fast, cause 11.96 is fast... Redline5th37938.9669212963
what helps the z28/ss is that good ole 10.25 comperession when it's cool it gets all the timing and such but on a nice 90 degree day the car will start to pull timing out of each cyl. and slow down a feww .10's. the car response well to anything cool on the intake..sorta like the good ole days

Yeah I am always bustin on the Camaro guys about how they look like overgrown Geo Storms and are powered by taxicab motors instead of real V8's, but this car is surprising.. and Orange. Why he wanted orange I dont know, we also have a Purple 97M6 in the club, they call it Barney. My car is old Ugly...lol.

Id say the et is legit but the mph looks way high fo an auto car pulling those times. What was his '60? Besides those dont look like et streets to me. But several bolt auto ls1 with convertors are pulling 11.3-11.8's depending on weight. Autos piss me off.

LOL.. My car was having teethign problems so I only got a 13.2 usually it runs 11.7-12.1 depending on weather what tires I have on it and fuel. I had no second gear (modulator issue) and it wouldnt hook cause I swapped from 4.11 to 3.42 gears, it hits them way to hard now. Big engines make alot of torque, the old ugly bird I posted has 462 ci and 530ftlbs @ 2800rpm. 430 ftbls Rear wheel @2500..
The Orange camaro honestly runs without N2O and with 2.73 gears. This car has got to be a freak or something because I have been all through it and it should run as fast as it does. His '60 was between 1.65 and a stellar 1.59! ou can see the edge of the tire and tell its an ET street... look closer or photo shop it you can tell then. Im not pullin your leg or blowin smoke. It irritates me because my car usually runs that quick and HE DROVE IT THERE! 2 hours to Darlington from Charleston. I had to trailer mine cause of the 11.3:1 compression, cant afford the gas to drive it that far. Yeah I think the Z28 is none to interesting to look at, I like WS6 TA's and Cobras for looks, Camaros are too plain, like a big Geo Storm..

First off, half of you understand NOTHING about LS1's.
Stock LS1's with 2.73 gears with a stall can run deep into the 12's in that form (YES with an automatic). With long tubes and no muffler along with free mods, it's VERY VERY believable that this LS1 runs in the 11's.
These cars are NO JOKE whatsoever. They are the TRUE bang for your buck performance V8 vehicle offered.

Tach9, 2003 Corvette Auto's with 2.73 gears run 12.8-13.0 all day with traction... Don't forget those LS1's are an AMAZING top-end motor...it's very possible. When and if this guy changes to a shorter gear, you'll see his MPH drop along with his ET.

Feel free to come to Charleston South Carolina where we are stationed and check it out. Will give youa ride, pull the cover, take it to the track on a friday night where it runs mid 7's in the 1/8. He is tryin to get some 3.42's or 3.73's. he wants an entire rear because the 10 bolts are the weakest klink and aftermarket rears are $$$$
