Ok. a teacher at my school has a 2003 Infiniti G35 sports coupe with limited slip diff. and the "performance package" it is all stock.
I have a 67 mustang coupe, 4bbl 302 (from a 68) slightly built C4 tranny with shift kit, and B & M quick silver shifter, holley 600 cfm carb. Edelbrock performer rpm intake, 1 inch carb spacer, and the guy i bought it from says it has a mild cam in it..i don't know for sure though. and the gears in the rearend (9 in) are low. (i dont know how low, i suspect 4.11s or lower)
He wants to race me, do I stand a chance? here is what he said his car cam do. 0 to 100 in 9.2 seconds. 100 to o in 6.3 seconds. 0 to 60 time 5.1 seconds. 280 HP at the wheels.
what do you think the outcome will be? I do not know wheather his is a manual or automatic.

Good things going for you is that you have good rear gears/ means youl take off faster. I would time yourself and see how fast you can get to 0-60 then compare that to your opponent. But i believe that infinity has the upper hand ... Unless you throw in a good 400 hp stroker.. with those gears and a stroker he wont have a chance that is if you can get the power to the wheels without spinning out..
aye :-) same opinion here. 0 to 60 in 5secs is awful quick ... check your car with a stopwatch and you'll see (careful, better take passenger !)

As much as I love classic mustangs he will kill you. Sorry. At least you will sound better......

First off....your teacher is an idiot or a liar or both.
"the 2003-04 model years, the V6 produced 195 kW (260 hp) and 350 Nm (260 ft·lbf) of torque in the sedan, 210 kW (280 hp) and 365 Nm (270 ft·lbf) in the coupe" Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infiniti_G35 (FWIW)
That is a far cry lower than 280 'to the wheels' however that his 'stock' car is putting out
Looking at the faster times, I see things like cold air kits, exhaust kits, tire changes, suspension kits, and then power adders for the fastest times.
Now, assuming he really is stock and he is just an idiot he has a 14 second car the next step is to compare how you stack up:
Since your car is mod it gets a little harder but here is one 'comparable setup' in my opinion http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-7526.html so based on this (and my own pre-conceived estimate) you are also driving a 14 second car
My conclusion is it could be a fun race and would be won/lost at the lights. You can tip to your favor with some drag radials instead of the traction challenged TAs people seem to like to run on their old mustangs all the time ;)

yeah although he is a teacher, he is more of a "late 20's to early 30's highschooler" he is pretty immature, but funny. when i asked him if it was stock or not he responded with "of course, why would i try to improve on perfection" regardless the outcomei would take a classic mustang over an infiniti anyday!
Hey, my T/A's look bitchin:P But yes, they are very 'traction challenged', lol.
Anyway, I think given equal driver skill, you don't stand a chance. But it's possible he doesn't know how to drive, and if you really have low gearing you might be able to take him. Give it a shot, but don't be too disappointed if you lose; those are pretty quick cars from the factory.

Just about every time I have broken or damaged my car, it was because I was doing something stupid (i.e. showing off, racing, etc). I wouldn't even bother racing him unless:
(a) you have built a strong drag worthy vehicle
-or-
(b) are willing to spend the repair cost for body, engine, or drivetrain damage.
I would, however, continue to talk trash. Maybe even call his bluff that he won't have a track to race. You could even pull the morality card and tell him how stupid road racing is (just an example; I don't know what he had in mind).
Just a few thoughts.
-edited to remove bolding. :)

hey another thing i was wondering, he told me that the C4's ate up over 25% of the power that the engine makes...i know that Automatic tend to waste power as it tranfers it but is it really this big of an amount? or is my teacher just ****ting me?
I believe the drivetrain loss is around 15%-18% but don't quote me on that. If he can drive even relatively well then he'll have you. But if he sucks at driving and can't launch I think you might have a pretty good chance. Good luck!
i raced my friends G35, i think an 05 or 06. we raced from a dig and i had about a car on him by the end of first and about 2 cars when i was hittin 3rd. but i dont know the differences between these sport editions and performance packages. im not sure if he had any of that. but i was expecting more from his car, i was kinda disappointed. my car is lightly modded, and you got nice gears for it, but i duno about his top end.
get it on video if you race him, im interested to see the outcome
Infiniti's are hardly perfection. They might be nice cars, but 10-15 years from now it will have been recycled and it may be reborn as a hyundai or kia.

Outcome ... possible arrest and impound/seizing of your vehicles, loss of job and perhaps credential for your teacher, suspension of drivers' licenses, loss of life and potential incarceration. I know a guy who t-boned a car who pulled out into traffic in the middle of a street race, she died and he went to the poky. Everybody involved lives were forever changed. To be blunt, I'd expect more responsible behavior from an educator.
