Ok here is my take on this. If someone wants to play, I look at what kind of car it is. I do NOT even waste my gas if the the other car is not a Muscle Car or at least another Mustang.
Take it to the track find another mustang that is built, shouldnt be hard. Tell the guy about your race get a couple of tips and have him run the idiot after you. Bet the teacher boy wont be so quick to talk smack on that note. Either way he gets a beat down by a mustang @ the end of the day.

Hate the Rice!!!!! GO MUSTANG!!!!!!!!!! I really don't think you "have your butt handed to you" in fact I don't think that car is that fast unless you are having engine issues you will be just fine.
Disclaimer (I HATE RICE... I consider non american cars as rice...)
a big + to the track idea. plus, you could have a big intimidation factor on your side if he really doesnt have any track experience. (racing OR watching)
Apperantly some of you guys are not aware that this forum has members with 4 cylinder cars that will rape just about any car in the Classic section. And I mean RAPE. Rice = the driver more than the car.

You can come right out and say you are talking to me, because I do not recall reading anyone else completely against the infiniti(rice). Don't get me wrong rice, excuse me foreign cars can be fast, but at a very high cost (I am talking parts breaking not cost of putting it together ie. high level of boost and power that a block that originally houses little hp is not meant to handle).
The topic is a classic 302 versus an infinti and IMO I just think he will have a chance (a good one at that) unlike apparantly a lot of people here. I am not saying that everyone is wrong I am just saying where is the love for the classic cars...
Not just you, but some other people seem to have the idea that imports = slow. Now, granted it's true for the VAST majority of the import scene. It's mostly ricers that try to run around racing folks, and they're not very fast(some are downright pathetic). My point was that just because a car is an import doesn't mean it's slow. There are quite a few turbo import cars that with not much in mods, are quite a bit quicker than most cars on the street. And the 4 cylinder cars I was referencing run 12's and 11's. Some of the stock turbo cars like EVOs', STi's etc can take quite a bit on the stock internals. It's hard to find good looking cars these days, and most people like the classics, so even if it's not fast people still think they're nice. But there are some import cars out there that are VERY fast. A G35 isn't that fast though, but they're also nice cars. I wouldn't pay that much for one though.

I would have to say we are in agreeing on some level, there can be and are fast imports, but there are equaly fast non-import cars. It is a fast and furious world for a lot of people and people IMO seem to be shooting down anything that is not covered with a sticker and features an under glow kit... and I can not fully understand why... I like this because a lot of people here are classic drivers and appreciate what they are driving....I have a friend with a nice 98 cobra and he never hesitates to defend an import... it drives me insane...
I loved my car when it had an I6 with 4.11s in the rear (cause you know it was fast as the wind) and I still would not have traded it for a "fast import," like I said I don't think you are wrong, but I don't feel I am wrong either, perhaps it is the way I was raised. I am an American car fanatic, there is nothing better to me then seeing monsterous cars, even some of our own classics, featured in magazines that are still geared to an American Muscle mentality.

Around here is like import land, SOOOOOO many 4 bangers that think they're faster than everything out there. Everyone I know with a crotch rocket says that the 4 bangers are always trying to race them. I don't defend imports though, but point out that some of them are quite fast, even though the vast majority are retardedly slow and have retards driving them. There's slow muscle out there though too.

Back to the OP...running a G35 is essentially like running an LT1 and I don't think you have enough in your arsenal for it to be close really. The burning oil thing isn't reasuring either. Sorry but just my 2 cents...

Those cars are quite quick. One of my friends has one and she let me drive it earlier in the fall. I was driving around our University campus and she told me I could get going fast (she said her dad hit over 110 during the test drive). So, we are on a back street on campus and put the pedal to the floor. The next thing I know, I look down at the speedometer and I was at 95. The car drove like a dream.
Anways... I think it will give you a run for your money.
Before I get on-topic, if you do decide to make a run of it, just take it to the dragstrip and settle it there. All kinds of poo happens when the racing takes to the streets. Google "Maryland+210+racing" and you'll find out that it doesn't even have to directly involve the cars that are racing.
BTW, know that not too many months ago this thread would have been deleted before dinnertime. Not just locked or moved. Deleted as in gone. Next time, take it to the street & Strip forum, m'kay?

Ok. a teacher at my school has a 2003 Infiniti G35 sports coupe with limited slip diff. and the "performance package" it is all stock.
I have a 67 mustang coupe, 4bbl 302 (from a 68) slightly built C4 tranny with shift kit, and B & M quick silver shifter, holley 600 cfm carb. Edelbrock performer rpm intake, 1 inch carb spacer, and the guy i bought it from says it has a mild cam in it..i don't know for sure though. and the gears in the rearend (9 in) are low. (i dont know how low, i suspect 4.11s or lower)
He wants to race me, do I stand a chance? here is what he said his car cam do. 0 to 100 in 9.2 seconds. 100 to o in 6.3 seconds. 0 to 60 time 5.1 seconds. 280 HP at the wheels.
what do you think the outcome will be? I do not know wheather his is a manual or automatic.
The numbers don't look right. If it's "stock" and running 5.1 seconds to 60, 100 should come up in about 13.x. Right about where a manual tranny S197 GT runs.
If the 0 - 100 in 9.2 is anywhere near correct, then maybe you're being sandbagged. Think "nitrous" or "forced induction" being the true description of his "performance package". You did say he acts like a kid (who turns out to be a few years older than the rest of you when you do the math).
Not the way I'd be playing poker. There's simply too much you don't know about this.

Here is a different spin: Be the bigger person and dont race. If your not setup to race then dont. No need to stroke his ego with a win. In my opinion the Mustang isnt about being the fastest car out there. Its about style that you cant get anymore and that why we have and hold onto these great cars.
Not to mention the fact that if you hit the wall you'll walk away with a neck ache and and some bent sheetmetal. If he hits the wall its a total.

I also hate rice, but my definition of rice is basically the fast and the furious cars. I don't consider Evos, STi's or a number of other imports rice unless they have a giant Autozone wing and useless body mods (i.e. unpainted body kits, underglow, etc.) I'm pretty sure my entire family would disown me if I ever got an import.
Back on topic: Like everybody else said, take it to the strip. At least there you'll have more people to witness him losing (providing he does so).

Thats too bad, what happend with that race. And I was not aware that this would have been deleted a few months ago, next time I will be sure to post in the Street & Strip. We decided to take it to the strip when we race.
and retro77, I agree with you 100% I tried explaining all of that to him, that a classic mustang wasn't just about how fast it is but the fact that it is a classic mustang. He however is one of those people who thinks 40 year old technology has no place in todays world.

In the time I have posted in this section, I have never seen a thread so deserving to be moved to street/strip.....
PLEASE MOVE!
Just for the record, even if I were to swallow the "Asian superiority" crap, I will never buy any new Asian car. (or most any new import for that matter) because I think it is un-American. That is all the justification I have for my position.
Just me though... those who think differently more power to you... I just happen to disagree.
Sorry, I will not pay respect for these cars even if it is otherwise due.. Of course this might make me something less than a "true auto enthusiast" , and It may make me an "automotive bigot" ..... but frankly I don't give a sh*t....
