I think you will beat him no problem.  Just make sure the race doesn't last longer than 1 block, or winner is first to 30mph!  :-)   You have a car that is cool because it is.  Don't let this guy who buy's a mediocre sports car to try and make himself cool, that he probably can't easily afford on a teacher's salary (which is a crime, but a different topic) give you the slightest bit of sh13$#@!.  I agree with Jeff.  It's fine to make dumb decisions as a teenager, that's what we all do - but your teacher should know better.  Plus hang on to your car, you'll regret it later if you mess it up and have to sell it, or get something else.

Assuming you go to a drag strip, which is a much safer idea, and you should have a better chance there, it could be a close race. If you can, take your car to the strip a few times before and get used to launching (softly of course so you dont break parts), and then take your teacher with you and you should spank him no matter how fast his car is. most ppl, especially if they have a manual tranny, will suck at the strip their first few times.

By the way: 2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe, 0-60=5.5, 1/4=14.2

good luck! get a vid!

Hey jeff, I agree with you, to an extent. However a buddy of mine has a lot of land, and a private road going down it - absolutley no traffic =] so I am sure we will be safe in that respect.

Also, you should tell him that if you lose the race, you will both go to a nightclub or something and see who can pick up more chicks using only their cars!

If you race, do it at the track. And if your 302 has stock 68 heads he'll rape you. Newer cars don't have as much peak power as many people think they would for how fast they are, but their powerbands are much better. A lower peak hp car with a flat powerband is gonna beat a high peak power "peaky" power band car 9/10 times. G35's are decent cars, if he can drive it half way decent it'll launch ok and pull steadily. Pull a valve cover and check the casting number on your heads, if they're stock 60's heads expect to lose.

in reply to 67mustang302...
i need my heads done/ new heads anyway. It is burning quite a bit of oil, so what are some good heads for a decent price? I don't want anything terrabily(sp) expensive
They ARE the stock heads btw.

Stock heads burning oil = lack of flow and lack of effective combustion from oil contamination of the charge. And you get what you pay for with heads. If you're on a tight budget you could look for some older 351 heads, or some GT40 or GT40P(require different headers) heads. If you have the $1,400 or so you could buy some new AFR or Edelbrocks etc. Or try Ebay or ask around from some good used heads. I'd stay away from Patriot or Pro Comp though, the qaulity is pretty bad.

351W heads had larger ports/valves and flowed better. GT40 heads were 302 heads that were basically a newer version of the older 351W heads. Standard stock 302 heads flow like crap, especially from certain years like 86.

Hey, I don't want to sound like the enemy of fun as I've certainly done some 'interesting' things behind the wheel when I was a kid.  That said, I can't see any positives for a teacher to be engaging in a speed contest with a student.  He has nothing to gain but very much to lose, be it an accident or even bad P.R. if the school, PTA or parents find out.

Off soapbox, be safe and have fun.

Jeff

Yes you are right, but idk in my opinion that is all his fault, if he were to get in trouble...

no lose to me anyway..like i said he is more of a student in his late 20's than a teacher.

Gothand has a point its not like it was when I was a kid many years ago. The cops used to park and watch us race @ midnight on friday and saturday nights.
If you crashed or got in a fight they kicked the crap out of you but that was then. The car culture is built on seeing who has what but now there is safer places to do it. we go watch bikes run in a huge industrial park after hours. more preferable than the street for sure.

take it to the strip

you wont be putting other peoples lives in danger, and if something does happen and you put it in the wall there will be EMS and whatnot there to save your ass

I vote for strip also. I've done the stop light racing and I was lucky I never got hurt or hurt anyone else. I loved the adrenaline though! I was in an S-10 with a 4.6 V6, not a piece of classic muscle car history.

Replace your heads, dont tell him, go to the strip, have him pay the fees since he is challenging you and just toast him.
