Hi again I have a 67 that I bought recently as a project. I'm working on straightening out the motor swap and other issues. The car came with power assist steering. I don't really know anything about it, it doesn't look like true power steering, it looks a more simple assist system, like this unit from Kragen
The car seems to be totally stock (other than the motor) so I'm guessing the power steering must be from Ford.
The PO did a motor swap (another post) and there's no power steering pump now. The part above was wrapped up in a bunch of soaked ace bandages.
I was thinking of installing a Saginaw pump from the boneyard and getting the system up and running again, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. The part above appears to be leaking, and if I put on the upgraded pump I might just make the problem worse.
I can rebuild the unit if it's fairly straight forward and will give me decent results. But I could also just strip the hole thing and go straight manual steering.
Is this power assist steering worth the effort, or should I just strip until I can put in full power steering someday? Thanks. -Dan
