Just want to let people who have the Steeda Carbon Fiber inlet tube know that mine decided to warp. The part on the inlet tube that connects near the throttle body metled in under theclamp. I fixed it by using a blow dryer on high then bent it back into position. Will see how it goes now. Just a heads up.

Remember hearing about the plastic one warping also.

Was the warping/melting noticeable without disassembly? Could you simply open the hood andsee it? And, I'm wondering if that's a sympton of overtightened clamps.

I wanted to have one installed at my dealer about a month ago, but the head of the parts dept. (Ford Racing) told me that he'd heard of a few cracking as well, and advised me not to do it.

I could not see it when the hood was open. I was trying to make the heat shield fit better with my hood so I pulled the CAI out to dremel down the heat shield and saw it. I could feel under the clamp where it warped. It didn't tighten it to hard. I mean you go until its really tight then one nothing I would consider overtightened.

That's why I went with the Saleen tube instead.

To me it looks better, can't bend/warp/crack, and attaches securely.

Plus it will be a perfect fit if I decide to go with the Saleen supercharger [8D]

damnit! I had my heart set on getting that one (Steeda CAI w/carbon fiber elbow) next month when I go for install/dynotune. I do remember reading about the black plastic elbowwarping and figured the carbon fiber would be more sturdy. Guess not. But thanks for the heads up -may have just saved me from going postal on someone.

Yeah it's kinda depressing for 200 dollars I expected it to withstand heat. I mean a few seconds of high with the blowdryer is enough to bend the plastic any way you want so it's really NOT heat resistant at all. If this doesn't work looks like i'll be going back to the saleen inlet tube good thing I didn't sell it yet.

How much $$ was the Saleen tube and where did you purchase it, if I might ask??

They are probably cheaper.

Another reason is that, being flexible, it doesn't rub against the hood liner every time you go wot (lots of folks have that problem with their stiff C & L and JLT CAI's).

JDM and Brenspeed sell them for around $100.

So I pulled my CAI off a few days ago and noticed it started to warp a lot more at the same spot. My Carbon fiber tube is trashed. :( I'm going to call the company and see what they have to say. I'm guessing they will say there is nothing they can do you probably had the clamps to tight.

If they replace it I'll have it for sale since I'm using something else.

Wish me luck.

I just got off the phone with Steeda and they want some pictures. I'll post an update soon as I get an answer.

Nah, I'd feel like a poser with fake badges- but I love the clean look, and had it 16 months before the Bullitt came out. :)

p.s. also have the same FRPP package as the Bullitt (but not the stiffer suspension, cause
it's not suited to the lousy roads we've got here in NJ).

Just great!! I literally ordered the Carbon Steeda 2 nights ago and am waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully this is an isolated incedent. I went with Carbon since all my motorcycles I had always gone with carbon replacement parts and exhausts on all of them. I cant imagine the heat of the motor affecting carbon more than the exhaust of my motorcycle, but I guess anything is possible. Let us know how it goes man!!!

So the inlet that comes with the JLT2 is a POS as well?

Just got off the phone with steeda and they did say it looked like the clamp was on to tight like I figured they would. They also said they will ship me out another one soon as they get them in stock. So I'm impressed with steeda's support and look foward to buying other parts from them.

Well that makes me feel a lot better!!! I am still waiting for mine to come in, but at least I know that they will stand behind it if I have the same issues! Peace of Mind is a wonderful thing!!
