valve covers

i wanted to paint my valve covers and happen to have some engine paint lying around but im not sure what is required to take off the covers, i dont want a bunch of stuff to pop out when i take them off.

will engine paint work on the valve covers? i would tend to think it wouldn't since they are made of that plastic material... that would be cool though if it did, I think I'd paint mine

that guy did an awesome job. but his valve covers are metal, ours are that plastic crap

I wonder how hot that krylon fusion paint for plastics can handle? that would be a good bet, that stuff is supposed to stick to damn near anything. probably won't handle too much heat...

I have an idea...duplicolor has self-etching primer http://www.duplicolor.com/products/primer.html
it is supposed to "Create superior adhesion on most plastics, fiberglass, bare steel, aluminum and stainless steel." Then follow with some high heat paint and then a clear coat! sounds like it would work to me...

i used engine enamel. 500 degree stuff. You must use bulldog adhesion promoter first. search for my valve cover thread over at mustang-c-o-l-l-e-c-t-i-v-e-.com

a few other guys painted theirs over there and they look great
