Well as long as your clear on this, you can explain it off as a sh*tty driver or a slipping clutch or some other mechanical gremlin in the Vette......But I'm also voting NOT that you keep up with a fine running vet with a compatent driver.

If you had one of those V6 torque monsters, this thread would make sense but sense you have a lowly GT..it was definitely driver error.

Yea dude, you may have been trying pretty hard, but he wasn't giving it everything that Vette had. I'm sure you got a quick car with those gears, but a C6 just plain faster.

How would a C4 Vette match up with a S197? They both have 300hp..maybe that's what he raced???

Depends on the year. I'm not sure what year the LT1 made it's debut in the C4. 92 maybe? Before that, I think it was the L98, or something like that. And if you're lucky enough to get a 96 with a 6speed, then the almighty LT4.

EDIT: The L83 was the first C4 motor, and it was only for the first year. Then, the L98 was introduced in '85 and went until '92, when the LT1 was standard. The ZR1's had the LT5, and as I mentioned, all the manuals in '96 had the LT4 (including Grand Sports).

My brother had an '86 with the L98.  230 hp. What a turd for a 'Vette.

Atleast Vettes didnt come with 4 and 6 cylinders in the late 80's to early 90's and still today on the v6 part.

C4's were light - like 3200 pounds.  That was the only saving grace for my brother's car.  When I had my GT with an X pipe, cat back, 3.90's, predator tune and UDPs, I could out accelerate his car from a slow roll or start (he was anvauto).  He thought it was quick until he bought his first C6 - then he saw the light.

An LT1 C4 would beat the OP too.  More HP in a lighter car.  That just my opinion.

Errmmmm OP, I dunno what kinda crack you're on, but can I have some? What ever you're smoking it just miraculously gave you about 100RWHP.. That car is NOT going to hang with any C5 or C6 vette..  A C4 sporting the 1st gen LT1 maybe.. but not a C5..

And an auto, which takes all the fun out of a car. The LT1 Vettes weren't much faster than the LT1 Fbodies. Much like the LS1's.
