I took my 2006 Pony to have the transmission serviced (20K miles)
This guy I've known for over 20 years services my cars and is an expert
at transmissions. Before lifting the car he told my the Mustangs had really
good transmissions. Then, upon looking at it after it was up he had a weird look on his face.
I'm like, what the hell? Then he says how weird, they put a Ford Ranger transmission in it.
Great. I've never been impressed with Ford Rangers. How is this transmission going to handle
the torque of a Mustang engine? I don't feel good about this. Glad I got the 75K warranty
when I bought it![:@]

Same one that was in my 01 Lincoln LS. That held up fine under a V8 for 175,000 before I got rid of it. Don't worry about it.

is that correct? I would assume it's at least modified from the ranger version.

Yes, the 5R55E transmission was used in Rangers and Explorers, even the Aerostar I believe.

dont bother me none. i own a ranger and the truck has been a champ. all the bad stories i've heard with rangers come from negligent owners who are too cheap for basic maintenance. as long as its a "FORD" tranny, i'm cool;).

The V6 automatic transmission is the same one found in the GT. It's not a bad transmission.

Very little. There are lots of variants of this trans. 5R55S, N, E, W and so on. They are all basically the same save for very minor internal differences.

To the OP. The autos in these cars are pretty good. I have one in my 04 explorer and 06 GT and both are holding up very well.

I was worried about durability as well, til I started reading threads about guys pushing 400+hp through them with no problems.

Keep it serviced and you'll be fine for a loong time.
