the price of brand new parts is soo much more than used. has anyone purchased used ford gears and t-lok? are these safe to use? what things to look out for when buying online? thanks!!
well, I'm about to find out for you! i just purchased a used t-lok off of ebay... should be coming within the next week or so. Things too look out for would be the usual: does the seller have a good reputation, how many bids so far, whatnot. I'm taking the gamble, but the seller i'm dealing with seems to be a good guy. He's answered every one of my questions quickly and promptly, and he seems to know what he's doing. If all goes well i'll give you his info - his prices are pretty fair too. Other than that though, you're always taking a gamble whenever purchasing online, new or used. Just ask those that have had the fun experiences with RPMoutlet !!!

i'm one of the lucky few with a positive rpmoutlet experience, BUT i won't gamble anymore with them based off other member's experiences . As for the gears, i ended up purchasing used ford 3.73's for the 7.5". they were only $60 and claim to be in exl. condition so i'll wait and see also. Seller had a good rep so hopefully all turns out fine . i also plan on ordering a FRPP t-lok but i think i will just get that brand new. $200 w/ free shipping aint so bad i guess.
This is almost funny, but i have a set of 3.73's and T-lock from a ranger sitting on my floor as we speak. I guess we all will be able to answer the question in a few weeks....I have no problems using used gears as the stock ones are now "used" at 40K miles. LOL...Just make sure you buy a Diff bearing rebuild kit with all 4 bearings and new shimms and ring bolts in it. Also will need 3 qts of diff fluid and if not using RP,... 4 oz of friction modifier...

yeah, the shop i'm having it done at is a pretty known place in my area for gears and driveline stuff. i'll just supply the gears/t-lok and they will have the rest of the parts, bearings, etc. in house for the install. their web is coastdriveline.com. they also make aluminum driveshafts for our stangs. not sure if they make em for the sxr but i'll find out when i'm there.
Got my Fleabay 3.73's and tlock in and the jury is in. They are sweet. After the second try to set up the backlash, (first time were set at .006, tooo tight) they are almost noisless and much quieter than the stock 3.31's i didnt even know were whining!...The gears looked real good and they were a matched set that patterned near perfect with less than .001 backlash differences on 6 points when installed. Its a good thing i sprung for a full bearing kit as one of the stock pinion bearings fell apart on removal. the new pinion preload was set perfect at 14 inch lbs. and the clutch pack is very healthy and makes no noise with only RP Max gear in the diff. (donyt worry, I have 4 oz of xl-3 ready in case)....car drives so smooth. seems to shift better too. I'm also taller and better looking now too....LOL
