And it's not like it's getting brutalized by the sun here in illinois. i've seens some pretty ugly things happen to paint in Texas/Arizona type weather.

My best guess is that all your repainted parts are a different shade of black than your factory paint. From what I've heard it is very hard for a paint shop to perfectly match black paint. How many shades of black do you have on your car? -Andrew

one word ZAINO...I'm telling you...if you go to http://www.zainostore.com/ and get the products and follow their basic instructions your paint will be as good as new. It works and anyone else that has used it knows what I'm talking about. But once a year you should detail your car. Strip off all or any wax by washing it with some Dawn...then Claybar, then use the Zaino ALL IN ONE (apply and remove) and then Zaino Polish (apply and remove) You will proably want to go with the Z-5 Polish because that is specifically for darker colored vehicles. You do this whole process once or twice a year and the rest of the time just use their car wash soap. I like it better than waxing!! And a little bit goes a long way.

The only thing that has been painted was my new hood, the bumper/fenders & doors are still stock. The bumpers, spoiler, and hood match eachother. Anything metal, doors, roof, fenders, and trunk match, but at a much lighter shade than anything plastic/fibeglass. I put the stock hood on it not too long ago just to compare and sure enough, even that didnt' match, and that is aluminum. So it really goes back to plain old fading, but at a way too rapid rate in my opinion.

Alright i have read up on a few different kinds of waxes that might help. I have narrowed it down to Zaino, Blackfire, and Pinnacle. From my understanding, Blackfire brings out the color, Zainno is a crazy gloss like putting cellophane around your car, and Pinnacle does midway between both. I really doubt they are interchangeable...but if they are, is it possible to go with Blackfire then use the shine polish from Zaino?

I think you just need to strip it, clay it, and polish it to start with. You should post in the detailing section to get advice that's more practical and less centered on a certain brand. They pretty much all work if you use them right. If the paint color is actually somehow different on the body panels, nothing you're considering is going to change that. You're not going to touch the color coat. Anything you do is only going to get rid of haze and scratches on top of or in the clear coat. So get all the wax off and polish the scratches out (with a machine). If you still see a difference, then you know what you have to do.

Unfortunately, that's sort of what i thought. I don't think there will be a miracle to bring this thing back up to show quality. Thanks for the advice, i might just go crazy and see if i can't turn it into a black shade of chrome so i can't even focus my eyes to see the faded areas.

A wax isn't going to make that much of a difference. PS: I consider myself a pretty knowledgable detailer.

I had this same problem with black fading. I drive the **** out of mine though in texas weather so it was only a matter of time. My friends are big into showing their cars down here and they all use the same thing.. Zaino. I may sound like an advertiser or something, but if you use the zaino stuff and follow the directions that stuff is simply amazing. My paint went from looking dull; to looking so shiny the paint looked wet. I went a little overboard but i wanted to try it and see how it looked: I washed it with dawn then clayed then washed with their car wash soap i used their polish +swirls and fine scratches next i put on the gloss enhancer then i repeated the polish and gloss enhancer both 2 more times. last i put on their regular stronger polish and then gloss enhancer it took me a full saturday but it was definately worth it to me. p.s. if you want it to shine even more after that... try their grand finale spray seal. Its expensive but i tried my friends and it pretty much doubled the shine and gloss after i did everything above it was insane.

ORIGINAL: Tony65 Can't wait to see it. I'm really fed up with this winter here in Chicago area, i can't do anything. I think it's safe to take out (trusting the news) and end up almost getting stranded trying to bring it home. 2 things about your car so i don't annoy you with tons of others , how is the MGW shifter? i have the Hurst and hate it, 3rd gear takes the talent of a brain surgeon. How is the Supercharger working out for you? Do you have any problems with it? Would you expect to get a full normal life out of your car? I only ask because i am interested in getting both, still can't decide on the type of supercharger, or if i want to go turbo. The MGW? Fawkin AMAZING! There are a bunch of Hurst owners that have made the switch. I'd do it if I were you. The Saleen.... Yeah.... It's working out as well as it can, I only put it on last month, and I'm in Buffalo.. I haven't had the chance to get after it much, but with how hard I drove it N/A, I'm sure I'm not going to be any easier on it now (well, maybe a little bit, but only because I won't need to push it as hard to get the same feeling).. As far as life expectency, I guess that depends on how you define it. Will the engine last as long as Ford intended when the build it? Most likely not. But, I'm aware of this, and plan on going through it next winter or the winter after and doing a forged bottom end. But, that's all contingent on whether or not I buy this '66 coupe I just found... *sigh* "Hi, my name is Jeff, and I'm an addict........"

ORIGINAL: Tony65 what would you reccommend? I guess you can do a full detail just to see what happens. Unless the pictures were misleading, I don't think it's going to make it 100% better. I think the car was repainted if the color is really that much different as it shows in the pictures. I've had two Ford's that have been black with no problem. I also live in Florida.
