Any good, anybody have them? I believe their a pretty new product at brenspeed. Just wondering if they would be worth it as they are much cheaper and the cost of not having new springs is definetly enticing. Any opinions/ thoughts?

I'm waiting for someone to install these too. They look really mild though.

Again, I am still in the debate between going with cams or not... because I have seen dyno charts of people literally only getting a 20 rwhp gain from stage 3 comp cams... and if these new cams from brenspeed are made to fit the stock valvetrain (which for comp stage 3 you would probably have ta get new springs and retainers), then I would tell you to take a chance with comps or BBR's... I know BBR has gotten the most gains out of cams so far on the s197. I wouldnt buy cams just because they are cheap either. And... these new cams are almost the same price as just getting a set of stage 2 BBR cams or stage 3 comp cams...(not the whole kit)

The Brenspeed cams are manufactured by Comp Cams. They are on the Comp website. They don't give any specs on them though. I'm assuming that being that they use the factory springs and retainers, that they are milder than the Stage 1 and Stage 2 cams. Brenspeed says +20 peak HP.

How much work is there to a cam swap on these beasts?

that's the key.   Having supporting mods like LT's is a big plus.  I suspect people who have seen only 20hp went with a mild grind 9go big or stay home) and/or haven't gotten very good tuning.  It takes someone with experience to get the most out of them.

I went from 306 to 350 hp when I did the cams.  I haven't updated my sig, which still shows I have the WMS intake.  I just switched to Airaid and picked up a bunch of low end torque while the upper end increased slightly as well.

Also, if you're going to lay out the cash to do the cams, don't short change yourself by not doing the springs also - it's not that much more and will extend your red line (make the most of all that high-end power)

Interesting. 37 hp 17 tq gain on an automatic. But longtubes and CM deletes were installed between cam install and last dyno. So how much do you think the cams actually netted him? If I'm looking at a solid 20 rwhp for half the price of the Stage 3 cams its something to consider. Install time is supposed to be 4 hrs.

If your gonna get cams, you might as well get your heads ported..... with that you'll get the most hp out of them cams. I'm looking into cams that will work very well with nitrous as well as N/A... anyone know of any?

The problem with these cams is there are no specs. I need to know the lift, duration, lsa, etc. etc to know if they are worth the investment or not. In our cam talk thread, I explained that there is not one 'end all' cam or spec. Whether your FI, N/A, and where you rev your car to and where your set-up can make peak power has a lot to do with getting the best gains out of a cam.

Personally, I don't really like the idea of using the stock valve springs. I have said it before that the valve train is one of the weak links of the S197 IMO and should be upgraded with FI and boost levels 10+.

I don't think skimping on the valve train to save a few bucks is a good idea - however, depending on the specs, these might be a good buy for n/a guys who plan on staying n/a cause I think the stock springs are good enough for n/a power but as someone pointed out, if you want to twist the car high, you really should do springs and titanium retainers...

But for average n/a builds, I don't see why these wouldn't be a good buy. I would like to know the lift, duration, and lsa first though. On an n/a car, you'd like to see a tight lsa and a pretty even lift/duration between intake/exhaust.

I'd like to know the specs on these cams as well. Curious to know why Comp won't publish them on their site.

That was my friend, Scott. Between his 2 dynos, he added LT's,4" alum. D/S,delete plates & the NSR cams. Also 20" wheels the first dyno, stock 17" on that day. 05 GT vert.
Brenspeeds labor was 250-280 for the install. Took Dave around 3hrs.
My other friend had that day installed; NSR cams, C7L Racer CAI & BBK Throttle body.
He went from 300 - 318hp & 311(?)- 304tq. 06 GT manual.

The first vid is my car

hey i sent the email....brenspeed is on the clock now to get back with me....i even provided a link to the thread.  I am not sure they are able to release the info acutally but for 1000 installed its not bad at all really even for 10-15 HP gain

Sadly this is the case for 99.9% of all cam gain claims. I rarely see a dyno comparison with the cams alone and nothing else which kind of defeats the purpose IMO...

Perhaps but best to see what the specs are. I don't understand how they 'could not release the info' you need to know the specs of the cams you are putting in your car. My guess is these are far too mild for the money and that's why it's hard to get spec info. Makes sense if they are designing them for use without upgraded springs cause the wouldn't want to be liable for them going.

I'm waiting to see the specs but I'm skeptical if this is worth saving the extra dough for the right cams.
