I've got a 95 GT with a AODE, just started having problems can't find reverse, car pulls forward in neutral. Just prior to this it was noted that overdrive and 3rd gear were shifting back and forth alot (never had any slipping). Is this a trans or computer issue. Please note their is no play in the shifter but reverse seems to have dissappeared. Thanks for any advice you can give me. badcreek

First, I would check the shifter cable for damage/stretching. It might be something as simple as that. If not, I am afraid that it will be in the trans itself. The computer should only control the shift points and the "harshness" of the shifts. Any loss of gears like reverse and neutral makes it sound like its time for a new aftermarket AODE with converter. But I could be wrong. (Lets hope so).

I just overhauled the AODE in my wifes '94 GT. I'd say you have something broken in the trans. The computer tells it when to shift in the forward gears but rev. is manually selected. Mine had what they call a one way clutch that pretty much disintegrated in it. These are a weak point in the AOD. I ordered a new one from Ford and they have changed the design. Huge improvment!! That clutch is part of the rev. clutch drum. It didn't affect rev. on ours but I'm sure it could. If that comes apart it locks that clutch and reduces the computers ability to control the trans. Although nuetral is manually selected, if something like that happened it could lock part of the trans. up and maybe cause a no nuetral symptom. By the way, it's easy to check the signals from the computer for the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 shifts.
